Wiper problems

Post by Jay09 »

Can someone help ??

My window wipers are not working properly i have a 2.1 glx 1998, The problem is that the wipers dont work on the auto setting also they will only go full and when you push down for the intermitten you have to keep the stalk held down.

I have tried changing the sensor, tried my friend wiper motor, and have had a look for the relay. I have had a look at the hanes maual and it says to look for a blue relay (which i cant find)
If someone could tell / show me a pic of the relay's location i would be greatful, or any other suggestions for why this isnt working

Cheers :)

Very interesting situation. Sorry I know it's not what you want to hear, but it is :) Unfortunately I have a damaged limb and can't get to my D8 haynes :(
I have no idea how the rain sensor mechanism works, but if I were to guess, the magic would indeed be as you say within a relay. I *think* the relay should be mounted beneath the interior fuse box, which is by by the drivers offside knee.

Number 3 in this diagram,
6555 EL - WIPER DELAY BE BLUE
But there's also number 7,
6555 68 - ELECTRIC RELAY 25 AMP VI VIOLET
- SPEED CONTROL
- INTERMITT AUTO FR WIPER BLADE

I've not much idea how it works either, Haynes is typically ignorant too.

Sounds like a dodgy stalk to me....
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)
