Top Driver's Engine mount gone?

Post by loopster »

Hi all,

good to find a forum with loads of experience on it!! :cheesy:

I have had a vibration coming form the engine area when the car revs between 2400 and 2600 rpm. Took it into local garage and although they could not confirm it, suspected that the top driver's side engine mount had gone. Problem is that the steel bit that bolts to the engine is no longer avail as a part (tensioner arm is). After looking round here a bit I got wondering... can any one tell me if I need to replace the whole steel arm thing or just the rubbery innards? Is that even possible?

1998, 406 LX 1.8 16v

Mrs has the car out this evening, but can post photo tomorrow if this helps?

Cheers chaps!

Hi there, it doesn't look like the innards are available separately, unless you can find a bush the right size to push into the housing.

I think this is yours:

I guess you're talking about #5. Pug's own on-line parts catalogue has the worryingly more common NFP next to it (not f***ing produced). The later version has a completely different and has a different attachment to the inner wing.

The part number is 183947, common to: 1.8, 1.8 16v, 2.0 and turbo manufactured up to Sept 1998. Ouch.

I think you need to make sure this is your problem first, then we start panicking :?

yep, #5 is the offending part. Was thinking of trying to source it from a breakers yard??

what is the URL for pug parts? I didn't find it when googling earlier. Or are you a man who just has access to it?!

I take it from your comments you mean that the later assembly is not compatible with my car/engine?

Thanks for the info :)

Pug's own is Service Box it used to be easy to sign up to but now you need a VAT number (or an address in a country they can't cope with :cheesy: ). I pasted a pic from www.peugeotpartscatalogue.co.uk , which is something the 406 coupe club sorted out, it mostly covers coupes but they forgot to delete some...

Looks like it'll fit the engine but not the body :( Breakers might be an idea, you have a few models to choose from now

Cheers Mate!!!

I know its for the coupe and I'll be working on the lower engine mount my step sons 2.1D saloon which decided to disconnect itself from the block  The parts catalogue shows me what I needed to know!!!

I know the bottom 2 bolts are there but not screwed into anything and the top one is missing. Hopefully its not sheared off in the block and I may be able to retap the holes - if we're lucky!!!

Number 5 was available from my dealer 2-3 years ago when I got a new one for my tubby.

However I replaced ALL the parts except the one that didn't appear to move, the cheapest part, which actually turned out to be the problem. Part 6, about £20 from eurocarparts.
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang
