oil tempture gauge

is the oil tempture gauge spose to work all the time or just when there is a problem?

any ideas

when you turn the ingtition on it shoots up to maxand the lightsd come on and then the needle goes to off?

Not when the engine's running (same as you would check the dipstick with it running) so it turns itself off after a few seconds.
