What engine?
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

sounds like poor glow plug performance, a cold diesel engine will chug (if it starts at all) when the glow plugs arent hot enough, hence it runs fine when warmed up.

Also sound very clattery and go "glug glug glug" kinda noise for the first half minute or so dont you find?

lol sounds like she was had by them eh.

use copious amounts of wd40 on the glowplugs (engine warm but not hot) so you dont snap one in the head....they are little b*st*rds to remove sometimes....and a broken one will not be a good thing...in fact its a very bad thing :(

yeah she was had by then alrite they charged her £300 for a new fuel pump and labour charges and they never replace the fuel pump but instead disconnected a pipe and when she was driving all the diesel came out

thanks for the tip mate

I found out today that the glowplugs on the HDi are only used under ecu control when the engine is in extreme cold, as direct injection diesels dont depend on the use of glowplugs to start, so they help, but are not necessary.

Next I would check the engine coolant temp sensor, as the ecu may not realise the engine is cold and hence not add the extra enrichment fuel for smooth cold running...
