Air con rad
Hi All,
just been told by a garage that my aircon rad is faulty, they have quoted £360 inc parts and labour(they say it comes with the dryer).....ive looked on ebay and can buy a new one with 18mth warrenty for £99, so the question is how easy is it to fit?? i changed one on my old toyota a few years back and had no troubles, but this looks like the cooling rad maty need to come out aswell.
any tips and advice very welcome
thanks in advance

£360 holy sh*t
well only last week i replaced my radiator, but the breakers yard give me the air con rad instead DOH
anyway he charged me £30 for it, it looked brand new,
the radiator and turbo intercooler have to be removed on mine to gain access to air con rad ..
its not a hard job, just the basic mechanic tools should do.

you said what now?
I think you will find that a lot of 406s including mine (and its bloody 35+ degrees here now!) have problems with the bottom of the condenser/ air con rad rotting through and springing a leak, hence knackering the A/C, its well documented on here and plenty of other places on the web

mostly on cars around the 7-8+ years old,
on a brighter note I was quoted 185 quid or about 900 Polish Zloty to have mine done, but thats not helping the original OP in anyway, sorry mate but I feel your pain.

Re: Air con rad
Sorry Gary,
Didnt mean to come over quite as aggressively as it did, it must be all that sitting in a hot sweaty car with no A/C

Desperately got to do my Golf's
Still, the Pug will be driven to France (1400 mile round-trip) next week and Germany (1850 mile round-trip, via the Nürburgring on the way home
) in a couple of months, so it'll be freeing up the garage for the VW to move in for a bit
I'm getting fed up of "SERVICE NOW" flashing up and beeping every time I turn the ignition on

<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang
Re: Air con rad
My digital aircon isn't blowing cold. Should the revs change when turning on the aircon on a hdi 110? Cause mine doesn't

At idle yes the revs should drop. I'd get it pressure tested for starters...robire wrote:My digital aircon isn't blowing cold. Should the revs change when turning on the aircon on a hdi 110? Cause mine doesn't

Re: Air con rad
You can turn off the "Service Now" message. You should have two buttons on the dash, right hand is button A left hand is button B.mjb wrote:Desperately got to do my Golf'sI'm getting fed up of "SERVICE NOW" flashing up and beeping every time I turn the ignition on
Press and hold button A, turn on ignition, depnding on the year, you should have SERVICE light up on the dash...might be a line of dashes or OIL...turn button B to the right and the SERVICE light should go out.

Re: Air con rad
If you will have changed the rad on the aircon its going to need refilling by a specialist.

If his is like mine, rotted through on the bottom of the condenser, then sadly everything has already escaped into the atmospheretenwierdufos wrote:

let us all know how it goes Paul, the heat over here is killing me and i might just have a crack at it myself, if i pay the local specialist to do it, they want 900 Zloty (about £185 ish) but will refill it too, whereas if i do it myself i could save a bit and give myself something to do on my quiet days in the sun

Re: Air con rad
yes it will all escape, it doesnt cost much to refill in UK, but air con stuff in my opinion has to be left to professionals

it isnt diy stuff
air con material isnt for the diy mechanic
