i found this somewhere on the forum some time ago,

if you take out the MAF and look at it its a round tube with mesh one side , and open on the other. inside u will see what i would call a toungue. on that u see 2 tiny bridges made of fine metal.
what i did is take out the tiny metal piece on the second bridge (first one bieng nearest to the open side , second nearest to the mesh side ) put it back in and connect it up and ure done!

i'm now the second person on the forum with this mod(for as far as i know)
have driven atleast 2500 km like this , no problems at all
also doesnt show up on diagnostic or incar comp.

the car is super responsive and drives like a rocket!
i do also have a performance airfilter, breathes much beter !

my car is a 2l hdi from 2001

dunno if this is a good idea iirc the probe ur breaking off is intake air temp sensor for the ecu.

but i may be wrong :?

I think the MAF works by heating the little element inside the frame with a constant voltage. By measuring the current and the air temperature, the ecu can determine the air flow.....

It's likely this technique 'fools' the ecu into thinking the air flow is greater that it really is, so it increases the fuelling. Kinda bargain-basement remap? The effects might be different when the weather changes......

i will keep u posted on any changes , i have noticed , more responsivnes, and a minor decrease in fuel usage :)
i have been driving it in really cold weather, and also everyday , now i'm waiting for a nice warm spring ;)

Hi all,
not been on for a good while but I've recently replaced the wifes old 2.1 for an HDI 90 (1999) and found this thread while looking for something else,
anyway, are there any updates on this mod ?
Does it have any drawbacks ?
