the only thing stopping me try to fire it up now is the track belt , stupidly i didnt look how it was routed has anyone got a diagram or can point me in direction of one , 1.8 16v engine , thanks alan.

You mean the auxilliary belt? With or without aircon? D8 I assume?
I've got autodata here so let me know & I'll fire it up.

yes its a d8 with air con , sat searching for diagram now so any help appriciated , oily keyboard lol.

hello again all , first of a massive thanks to anyone who helped with this mission lol , jasper big thanks and teamster thanks for the help with auxillary belt today , i have just gon on 40 mile run to visit parents and back home and car is running sweet as , im soooooooo happy despite the multitude of cuts and grazes , still im sure the 4 cans and bottle of wine im about to get into will sort the aches and pains .

looking under the bonnet on saturday when i broke down on motorway i felt like crying as i knew i faced a mission , the head gasket ,water pump and cam belt all done , anyone facing doing this job its not as hard as it looks and there is loads of help and support here , thanks again all , alan.
