Flipping heck mate, that's no good is it? :(

Do you think it'd be worth trying a used alternator from a decent breakers? you might get one for £35.00??

If something's draining your battery then why would it suddenly start doing this after being ok before? :?

heres 2 numbers for a guy on ebay s+ c electrical , he has loads of rectifiers listed but says call him before ya buy one to make sure ya get right one , there £19 + £3.00 p+p 01279 445668 or 01279 444484 .

im pretty sure when ya say ya charged it last night and it droped from 13.5 to 13 that the rectifier should put out 13.5 or more even on tic over , even if ya switch electrics on its job is to keep a stable constant charge in the battery , the stage 2 charge when ya motoring is at a higher rate from memory 14.5 to 14.8 , if the rectifier has broken down its possible the battery is draining backwards through alternator .

Thanks guys!!

Well this is proving very interesting!!

I charged up my old original battery just to see if it would work......It works fine as in the car running. It was giving out 14.0v on idle and the alternator was giving out 14.1v. What interests me is this...... The original battery has 640 Amps on it, the Bosch Silver has 610 Amps on it. So on idle the original old battery is giving out .5v more?

I went back to Halfords where I bought the battery, they said they would exchange it........They dont have a 640Amp one though, they do have a 680Amp one, would this be ok to use in my car, a 680 Amp battery? I have checked and it will fit :)

I still cant understand what is draining my battery though. Lights work fine and are ultra bright, heater fine.....everything electrical is fine. I did change the original Headunit the other week for an aftermarket one but used original loom/plugs so cant see that being the problem??

She starts ok with a jump start though......
maybe the jump start makes your car get a good earth?

try what i was advised (didnt do tho) get a thick cable and connect it to the -ve terminal then connect the other end of the cable to the gearbox or the likes. try starting it then.

It would be interesting to find out how much load you now have on the permanent feed, i.e. how much is it discharging your battery when the car's parked.

Alternatively, disconnect it for a day or two and see if your battery stays fully charged.

Funny you should say that mate......... I have disconnected the battery!

I am just wondering if a 680Amp battery would be ok on my car, she has had a 640Amp battery on there since new.

Can't see any possible downside to a higher capacity battery, so long as it physically fits OK. 8)
