Nice idea, puggy, but as it's a 5/6 hour round trip plus spanner time, it doesn't sound too practical..

I'm thinking I might try to set up a meet, possibly to coincide with the French Car Show at Rockingham, if there's enough interest, since the coop folks will already be posing thereabouts

Peugeot finally got back to me about the DMF fault......

They agreed they would pay 25% of the cost in my case, but unfortunately the cost of the job would still be more than I could get it done for elsewhere.

Now I have another problem....in 2006 (the year my car is) they changed the DMF, unfortunately, this type of DMF cannot be bought anywhere other than the dealer.....

LUK, who make these, have apparently not released these to the general market.

Guess what? I can't get one until monday, unless I pay full retail for it....no chance :frown: :frown: I'll wait until monday so I get a good discount.

The big problem is that I can't now get the job done until next weekend  My wife is not happy :frown:

Sarted the job at 10am, left at 12-30 for lunch, gearbox is almost out, just n/s driveshaft and the turbo pipe to remove, one bolt behind the turbo pipe and subframe to remove.

Ah well, back to the grind... :cheesy:

Thanks Puggy :D

Managed to get as far as fitting the new flywheel and clutch to the engine by 5pm, tomorrow I have to refit the gearbox and all the dozens of bits :cheesy:

You have to remove the ball joints to get at the driveshafts and unfortunately I have found a faulty one :(

It's getting there dude, nicely done :cheesy:

You found a dodgy ball joint or driveshaft? Either way it's a pain but better you found it now than in 2 weeks when you'd have to take it to bits again.

Sorry, a faulty ball joint, apparently they are a common failing on the 407.

Dead simple job though.

yep there a common fault but cheap and easy as you say, so not a problem really.did it fall to pieces as you removed it???they normally do.

Didn't fall to bits, but there is a lot of up and down movement in the drivers side joint, other is fine.

Removing the gearbox is a huge job on these 407 HDi.

DMF is definitely shot, clutch is alright though.

When buying a used 407 HDi you'd have to factor in the cost of this job knowing what we know but then I suppose some other punter will come along and buy it for more money without a thought :|

Hope it all went back together ok Jaspy.
