All gone well so far, due to time constraints i'm having to go on trust that the de-fapped ECU map is good, as the car has to be driven to Cornwall on Sunday (from Derby)!

Driven it for all of 20 miles with no fault codes appearing (the eloys tank is bone dry and was throwing a fault code before flashing) then took the hammer to it.

Took four hours to get the thing off the car (rust, had to take almost the whole system off the car before I could separate it) and bash it out... just got to re-assemble now :) Much rather spend money on de-fapping it than being robbed for 2 litres of fluid at ~40 quid each (repeatedly)

thanks chaps for all support and files!

today galletto arrived and managed to do everything as instructed. Car is now decated defaped and remaped :D . Done test drive and after 1 mile antipolution with engine management poped up again!? came back plugged in JP701 to see faults and there was no with additive system or antipolution as use to be just two: 1. FRIC (COOLING FUNCTION INTEGRAL WITH THE ECU). CONSISTENCY BETWEEN THE FAN SPEED AND THE SETTING.?
2.INTERMITTENT FAULT. ADDITIONAL HEATING CIRCUIT. SHORT-CIRCUIT TO POSITIVE.?
so i cleared it and done another test 3 miles and so far no faults appered, came back rescaned it and only those 2 remains?

The difference in power after remap is so noticeable although its still sluggish before 1800 rpm, flat spot problem still remains, any ideas what cause that and how to fix it? turbo wistles quite loudly it was all the time like that since i had car.

tried to plug galletto again and its not comunicating with ecu, tried several times with no luck, first time was all fine, whats going on there?

Thanks

No.1 I have heard of, but don't know the answer. Relates to radiator fan speed control. Provided you make sure the engine is not overheating it can wait till later.
No.2 Is to do with 3 small electrical heater elements which heat the matrix after during warm up in cold weather - this can definitely wait. (You may find a common cause, e.g. fuse or similar).
The difference in power after remap is so noticeable although its still sluggish before 1800 rpm, flat spot problem still remains, any ideas what cause that and how to fix it? turbo wistles quite loudly it was all the time like that since i had car.
Most likely a problem with the vacuum system or the solenoid valves which use vacuum to operate the turbo boost control, throttle butterflies, swirl chamber actuator. Can be difficult to trace, but usually cheap to fix. Look at this thread from the coupe forum, it is a very good guide to this area. http://www.peugeot406coupe.com/phpBB3/v ... =2&t=35570

Difficult to say, mine has always worked first time on every car I've tried. The only exception being the first time on mine - the fuse supplying the diagnostic connector was blown, (a 10A fuse in the engine fuse box). This is quite common, apparently. Not sure which fuse, but the fuse location/no. varies according to the age of the car. Worth a try.

got galletto working, dont know what happend just plugged it after few hours and bingo! other then that car pulls very nice. If remapped is ~180bhp should be ~0.12bhp per kg around the A6 3.0tdi 221bhp mark :D

I've recently bought a 2.2 HDi Coupe 406 and found it to have the Anti Pollution fault appearing intermittently and going into limp mode.

I emptied the FAP so its now just an empty canister, I took the car for a test drive and seems to be running smoother and more responsive.

I would like to de-fap the ecu, i've purchased the Galletto cable and would like to know where I could find the 180hp de-fap file.

If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You've come to the right place. 8)

What month/year is your coupe? (Does it have the lift-for-reverse gearbox)?

Need to know this, as there are different ecu versions, depending on the age of the car.

Also, you'll need to PM me a direct e-mail address.

Hello,

I too have just purchased a 406 coupe 2.2Hdi 4 weeks ago and have already had the same 'Anti pollution' fault as mentioned by others in this thread. I am so glad to come accross this forum where people have had this problems and have solved it so thought i would post my first message asking for help!

The engine management light has come on as well as the flashing 'Diesel Particulate Filter' light!!!! I have called various garages and have received mixed messages about the best course of action. One common theme is the extortionate price! I have done some reading and am keen on removing the DPF and 'defapping' and remapping the ECU.

Could someone please explain to me the required steps......so far I have

Purchase galletto software + cable
Get hold of the re-map file (inlcuding defap & performance remap)
Physically remove filter
download the remap file to the ECU using galletto

I have some questions..........

Will the faults (engine management and DPF) clear as a result of the remap or do I need to also purchase a fault code reader and re-set the faults at some point? Can Galletto do this or do I need Peugeot Planet 2000?
What is the correct order of above steps? Remove filter first then remap or other way around?

Car Details - 03 coupe, has the 'lift for reverse' gearbox

Any help from people who have done this would be greatly appreciated!

To save people the effort of typing a reply and for the benefit of future searchers below is an email transcript between myself and from Mutley 1984, hopefully he wont mind the reproduction:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
> 2. Get hold of the re-map file to deFAP and get the performance boost and
> economy increase
I de-fapped my original ecu file using ECUSafe. This didn't give a performance 'remap' but I deemed it safer than flashing a file that didn't match my HW and SW version, plus I dont feel that much need to 180BHP.
> 1. Is this the correct order or should i remove the filter first?
I recommend de-fapping the ecu. Driving it a few miles to confirm the flash has worked and the errors dont re appear then bashing out the filter
> 2. Does the re-map of the ECU automatically remove the Fault codes I
> currently have or do I need to have a fault code reader (like the PP2000)
> to re-set the faults. Can I do this using Galletto?
You need pp2000 or another code reader to clear the codes. You can clear them before or after flashing the ecu.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just looked up ECU safe hadn't come across this yet. So ECU safe is the software and it works with the Galletto cable I just bought from ebay right? (please say yes), and this is a 'safer' way of doing the FAP removal from the ECU as opposed to directly through galletto software?!

Any advice on fault code readers? There are tons out there some expensive some dirt cheap. Some appear to be handheld devices and others connect to laptops?!

If you don't mind could you please give me a very brief guide on what you recommend I should do..........oh and any files/software links n tips would be amazing

Thanks again

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Galleto will come with software to read and flash your ECU. ECUSafe allows you to take the file you read from your ECU with the Galleto and remove all the FAP related structures from the file allowing you to flash back a perfectly matching file, just without the FAP information. The down side is it won’t be 180BHP, the upside is (i think) its less risky than flashing someone elses map if you aren’t that bothered about extra performance.

WRT to code readers I spent £100 on a Lexia 3 interface from Ebay to run Peugeot planet 2000 (the diagnostic software Peugeot dealers charge an arm and leg to use for you, they generally come with a bootleg copy). This allowed me to reset the codes and also gives you full access to the car systems to activate features, program new keys, code in replacement parts, diagnose faults etc in the future. You can get them for about £80 from china but by the time you have paid for shipping and import tax you might as well buy from a UK seller and have it the next day for £100. Plus at £100 its only the cost of 2 litres of FAP eloys fluid and if you never use it again you can sell it on for what you paid for it.

You can download ECUSafe from here: <snip> Click the online help button in the app to see how to use it. Some AV software (AVG specifically) might tell you the app is infected with a virus, it isn’t, its safe.
Doggy’s maps from here: <snip>

You might need to install winrar to extract the files: http://rarlab.com/rar/wrar401.exe

I would recommend you do exactly as I did:

• Use the galletto to read your ecu to a file on your computer
• Use ECUSafe to de-fap your file (you can practice de-fapping using ECU Safe using the maps I got from doggy, put the standard one in and compare the output from ECUsafe with the de-fapped equivalent using a file compare application if the files match you are doing it right!)
• Flash your de-fapped file back to your car
• Clear the codes using PP2000
• Drive it for a few miles, including stopping and restarting the car at least once to make sure it is ok
• Remove, split and bash out the contents of the FAP (allow at least 4 hours for this, the trick is to bash a hole down the middle with a metal bar then the rest should split out easily enough)
• Have a beer
• If you are feeling very brave you can always try flashing the 180bhp de-fapped file at a later date
