Hi Piglet,

I don't get the RPM specific bit either, 1500rpm is often painful, I can't beleieve it left the factory like that so something may be failing but I fail to see what.

Top speed is unknown but 0-60 is around the 13 sec mark so it's producing the power even with air in the system. Also the injection system must be able to cope with a measure of air which would be inevitable if the tank were run right down.

I have measured MPG on tank to tank refills since getting the car. It used to be 50-57mpg on mostly motorway driving (56mph in the slow lane, I never thrash anywhere!), now around the 45mpg mark in mixed driving, damn good for a big old barge.

Thanks,
Yes I agree the cars must have been OK when new, so should it not be possible to get them right again?
Mine at 57K can't be 'worn out', so what's going wrong?
From your consumption figures past and present you are suggesting a drop of around 20% in economy, that's substantial.

Adam, how's the new MAF figures going?

Cheers

Piglet,

Sorry my last post was a little ambuguous, the change in MPG is purely down to my change in driving habits from big motorway user to mostly local short journeys.

MPG has always been impressive, whether running smoothly or not!

The clutch switch had fallen off the pedal mount on mine and it definately made a difference in performance when i put it back on,no difference in economy though.

i guess my low economy is due to the driving at the time as it was around peterborough which is round about central stupid place but when its my turn to drive to work its up and down he A1 but the economy still isnt as good as the 110 i have

You are the 2nd person to say the 110 is better on mileage, slightly counterintuitive.
Whistle at low revs, try pulling the EGR vac tube off. Mine makes a funny little squeek which persist after the engine is switched off, for about 5 seconds or so until the vacuum has dispersed.

Talking of EGR's, I dropped mine into the local guy this morning for his 2penneth. The only fault code showing was insufficient EGR flow, that'll be the blanking plate then. He couldn't find anything, quelle surprise.

However he was trying to sell me a turbo clean service he is doing for £80, reckons it's the cure of all ills, mmmmmm
Anyone had experience?
What's this stuff: http://www.dieselturbocleaner.co.uk/ ?

Let us know how the clutch switch goes.

Does anyone know where the clutch switch struggled to look for it earlier as everything on cars is made for hobbits, i get a very slight whistle when i blip the throttle 100-200 revs when idle not sure if thats the egr the other very irritating this is the smoke dont get it on the 110 its when i accelerate changing gear im also not sure about the MAF it was a cheapo job BUT it cam from a motor factors store a very big well known one as well. Not sure about the turbo cleaner never tried it keep getting grey/black smoke when booting and white smoke when starting and it is difficult to start but thats when its cold

i have notice that if i press the throttle about 1cm or half inch there are no revs but the throttle cable is fully adusted no loose at has anyone else its annoying at a junction as you want a little throttle so you have to give it some more but sometimes its too much and the wheels spin

Yes, I have that feature too.
However, if I take up the extra half inch then I get error codes and 'engine anti-pollution system defective' on the MFD
It takes a bit of getting used to.

I got a flat spot at 1300rpm or so on mine, changed the clutch pedal sensor and it seemed to cure that.

I still had kangarooing though at low revs, and after it ate the flexi hose I think the mounts were shot.

However the garage could not find anything wrong, said that was the nature of the engine.
So I got fed up and sold it.

But as previously stated, can't have been like it out of the factory?
I have had a bit of a breakthrough, the car is noticeably better with no kangarooing after a good thrash to the Alps and back.
Not a total fix, it's still a bit woolly around 1300-1500 but I could live with it.
So,
If all it needs is a right good pasting then what's coking up?

Might try a clutch switch anyway, cheap and can't do any harm.
And yes, the dead spot on throttle take up is painful, get Anti-Pollution message if I take it out.
