not yet, waiting for compression tester to arrive.

Once arrived will do the test and feedback the info.

Was let down with Tester, so I swopped over two injectors (Cyl 3 & 4) , again pulled off the connector and Cyl 3 stalled the car Cyl 4 run lumpy still (no effect).

So I can confirm it is not an injector.

Something else within the Cylinder?

Stem leaking?
Head?
Rings?

seems to me youve done most of the diagnostics already, get a compression tester and check that, if it seems down on cylinder 4 then check the rocker under the cam for that cylinder, if thats ok then its gonna be somthing like rings or valve stem i wold have thought.

back on this again, well final got round to checking the compression, and not good news

Cylinder 1 : 380-390 PSI
Cylinder 2 : 380-390 PSI
Cylinder 3 : 380-390 PSI
Cylinder 4 : 0 PSI

so Cylinder 4 phuked!

Sorry to hear about your rotten luck , so whats the prognosis replacment engine, rebuild yours or scrap it & get another
Your's would have to be v nice or v attached to it to warrant it I.M.H.O , it;s just theres so many quite good ones out there for not much money at the moment

Before you resort to throwing the car away, maybe there is something broken in the head at cylinder no4 - broken glowplug, busted rocker maybe?

Worth a punt if its the last thing you do...

If you are attached to the car, it has a good history and does what you need it to do, maybe an engine replacement wouldn't be a bad idea as at least you know your cars history....

had the glow plug out to do the test , that's fine, I was looking at stripping it down but I have this problem too!

the whole car is sound, just now got no compression on no 4 cylinder, had the turbo go, lost all the oil (see previous messages), but for this problem I require some pointers.

1. if I check the dip stick when turn over the engine and there is pressure there what could it be?

2. if I check the dip stick when turn over the engine and there is no pressure there what could it be?

3. should I remove the top cover (no need I think! to lock and remove the belt and pulleys) and check the top end?

4. is ther any other tests I could do to find out apart from dismantaling the head!

You should at least take off the cam cover to check for something like this....viewtopic.php?f=1&t=20444

I posted a link to the timing belt how-to because there are pictures of where the cam locking tool fits....I already explained about how to lock the crankshaft at the flywheel by taking out the starter and inserting the locking pin in the hole above the starter.Also there is a photo of how to lock the aux belt tensioner to remove the aux belt easily.

I've no idea what you mean by pressure with dipstick out or in.....pressure with it in could possibly mean you have a piston problem?

If you don't have a broken rocker then your only way to diagnose the fault is to remove the head to check for a valve and/or piston problem.

sounds like a plan, so cover off and check rockers etc.

what I mean is if I turn over the engine with dip stick out and place a finger over the dip stick entreance hole should I feel a pressure?
if I do does that mean the rings/piston have gone, or if I do not something else! - not done this yet, just felling the waters ;-)

this will not be until Sat now, but rest assured I will be feeding back info.

You shouldn't feel any pressure at all from the dipstick hole.

Pressure at the dipstick hole could mean a piston problem (combustion gas getting past the rings), it could also mean a blocked engine breather.

Good luck with it anyway.

After my compression test, cylinders 1, 2, and 3 are fine at 290, all the same, but ZERO on 4 cylinder.

Last weekend, took off the top cover and checked, all looked ok at the top, however I could hear sucking and blowing, not a great deal but noticable.

So could this be valves or rings?

Er, yes. I'd have thought it would develop some pressure even if the rings were missing but, from Jasper's post above, I'm guessing I'm wrong about this. Or a holed piston perhaps
