HI
I ran a VW Golf Diesel on Veg for 5 years… Just straight from the cheapest supermarket into the tank… used to buy it for 40p a litre haha… ah the halcyon days of cheap motoring
i tended to mix it 80/20 (veg/Diesel) with a 60/40 in the winter. though would run it 100% in warm weather. We did a 3 week trip round France using sunflower oil which seemed to work well and was saving us something like 30-40p a litre at the time…

when we ran out of fuel…i used to enjoy playing chicken with the fuel gauge… we found a small local shop and cleared his shelf of veg oil to get to the next hypermarche … ended up discussing it with him for about an hour in broken french and broken english..

Best avoiding Soya in the winter as it has a gelling temp of 0c where as rapeseed (used in most generic supermarket veg oil bottles) etc has a gelling temp of -15 to -20 if memory serves me right
I think direct injection engines ain't to keen without a conversion to start stop on diesel but older indirect injection engines are ideal
The older merc engines are legendary for running on veg. Apparently the veg oil is actually better for your engine and for emissions it can't be beaten. Also, the original diesel engine was designed to work on peanut oil or something like that…granted engines have moved on since then but in essence veg oil is it's natural fuel source
there is a fantastic forum called www.vegoildiesel.com or something similar which is incredible for advice and assistance. really helped me a lot initially.

Good luck with it. Anyone running an HDI engines on veg? I always assumed it was a no-no due to the engine design though i don't claim to have any kind of mechanical knowledge bar putting the fuel in and checking levels
