mines V sept 1999 on all test stickers
Re: 2.0HDI NOT STARTING (but fires at first)
It's the exhaust manifold although the flexi looks new it may be that too.
Timings fine, popped back through intake once while running on easy start but that was fine cos it ran and could use throttle wile running.
once i stopped spraying engine stalled even on full throtle.
no doubt about what the fault is now but its just finding it, no response at all with reader, tracing wiring today

you may want to check the earth point on the gear box, if that brakes the engine electrics will fail.
Re: 2.0HDI NOT STARTING (but fires at first)
checked today, all loom from ecu to connectors before fuse box are getting multi-metered to hell tomorrow because while fiddling ive knocked the interior sensor disablements switch on and off a couple of times, now thats working but engine still not

Armchair diagnostics is often so difficult.
For anyone doing a quick ecu swop for diagnostics then really you need the BSI and chip out of the key. It just so happens that I have a set but it is from an earlier HDi that was only semi multiplexed, a sort of D8.5. what year is yours?
Ian
with this in mind I did check timing..... all spot on, smoke is from top of flexi and manifold gasket also

that aside, got PP2000 and working, global test brings up fault: pre-post heater relay permanent short to +
uh oooh, got a short in the relay itself, PP2000 has the function to activate the relay on-demand for testing..... it failed.
dealer part hopefully really cheap.
and hopefully the only fault because while I was messing about I tried to get into the injector ECU............ said no communication.
I've had a bit of trouble with the software and getting the correct information etc. so I'm not sure if it's that at fault or whether the injector ECU is buggered.
if it is does anyone know if it's just "plug and play" or whether I will need to re-program anything.
thanks guys.

I know I havn't updated in ages, that's simply because I've been "mumming and arrrring" about getting rid
:(:(:(:(
well now is the time to give up, I think it may be the fuel pressure regulator AND the rail pressure sensor after a lot of digging, however I just don't want to spend a penny more.
I simply do not have the cash flow to keep this going, so, the most regrettable thing I have ever done is about to commence.
IT'S GETING BROKE!!!!!
:'(
you'll soon see this car in the for sale/wanted section if anyone is interested in any bits or wants to have a go at repairing it. contact me on 07803540024
