If your car is a UK model then the service interval can be either 12,500 miles or 20,000 miles, later ones are usually 20,000 miles.

If your car is not UK spec then 20,000 is in Kilometers.

20,000 Kilometers = 12,000 miles.

The car is UK , and before it was showing 12000, so after changing oil and filter I reset the reminder , then it show 20000..I dunno if pp2000 has an important role to play on this issue!

Could you recommend me a 0w30 oil for the winter months. Preferably with A5/B5 specification. I need 6 litres for my '08 Mondeo 1.8TDCi. I have a budget of around £60.
I currently have Ford spec Millers Nanodrive oil which I've been impressed by but in 0w30 guise it's far too expensive!

Also do you still do the Castrol Syntrax 75W oil compatible with the Ford MMT6 box. Couldn't find it on the website.

Thanks, Sam.

Hi Sam

Here are the A5/B5 oils that we have.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-803-acea-a5b5.aspx

If you use the filter on the right hand side of the page, you can pick out the 0w-30s. All the 0w-30s are good oils, so go for whatever brand or price you prefer.

If this the oil for the Ford MMT6 you are thinking of?

Out of curiosity Oilman. Is there anything you should consider when choosing an oil if you have a wet belt?
I use 0w30 during the winter for added cold protection (car takes a long time to warm up with the EGR removed), the recommended Ford specification 5w30 during Autumn and Spring and usually if the temperatures are above 25°c on a regular basis during the summer I use a 5w40 A5/B5 oil.
But it dawned on me today that I have an oil soaked timing belt. Is this something to be mindful of when picking an oil or something I shouldn't worry about?

Hi

Is it a chain rather than belt? Oil on a timing belt usually means there is a problem. Oil on a timing chain is a good thing, a lot of cars with chains are noisy on start up without the right oil and some can be noisy even with the right oil. Ester based oils are the best option for timing chains as they cling to the chain, so will protect it instantly.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-953-ester-synthetic.aspx

I'm not sure you are really getting much benefit in changing to different grades for different seasons, unless the car is heavily modified, a SAE30 should be fine all year round in a Mondeo, so putting in a 0w-30 for all year round is a sensible option. The oil temp shouldn't be getting that much higher in summer than winter and a 5w-40 could be too thick, so won't flow properly and that helps to push the temperature up.

Cheers

My car has two belts. One of them is a wet belt like in the new 1.0T ecoboost.
It has an oil feed just like a chain would.

Oh, okay. I don't think the oil would affect the belt, it should stick to it to some extent and I assume the teeth of the belt will help it to hold some oil for the starts.

Hi Tim, can you advise me of the type of oil I need for my gearbox?

I have a 406, 2.2Hdi with slightly higher BHP than standard but not a race car or anything.....

I do about 3,000 a year now ( transfered to a local branch so I walk to work instead ) so stop start driving is what I do now. :(

Many thanks for your time,

Kelv.

Hi

You need an MTF for the gearbox and the best proven options are the Red Line MTL or Fuchs Sintofluid. The Millers TRX 75w-80 and Motul Motylgear are good alternatives.
