One final consideration - the engine in your original 2.2 HDi may well have some broken piston rings or worse. I know you have the other engine, but it's still a lot or work.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Do you think that such a damage could have happened during a sudden engine stop?! I was thinking towards a possible one tooth timing belt jump but I hope that nothing happened during the accident. If the weather allows me, I'll carefully inspect the engine during the weekend but at first glance no oil leaks were identified except for antifreeze which poured out via the radiator and the power steering oil which was leaking through a pinch in the front pipe (in that 'U' shape area of the pipe made, I suppose, for power steering oil cooling).
Assuming that my original engine didn't suffer any damage during the accident, I think it's in better shape than the one from the 'frenchie' - judging by the more severe oil accumulation in the intercooler (on the 'frenchie') and by worse injectors figures of the 'frenchie' in Lexia. Still while driving no visible difference between the two cars in terms of performance...

I'm curious as to why this impact would affect the piston rings? I would expect the engine to stall under heavy breaking just before the impact (unless the clutch was depressed but most people panic and stand on the brakes first).

It would be worth looking at the drive shafts and where they exit the gearbox for signs of damage, also the rear of the engine/turbo area. The cambelt may have been put under strain with such a harsh stop also.

Ouch..what a mess,

ithink it couid be repaired..but wouid it ever drive straight again.

Get both cars married.. might work out easier/cheaper.
some might see that as bad..but both cars are owned by your self..so what harm can it do.

I am also concerned about the drive shafts due to the postition of the gearbox (twisted to the left). The rear engine/turbo area seemed ok except for the rear flexible pipe between the turbo and the FAP - actually the clamp was destroyed. I was lucky with the engine since the car had the OEM engine and gearbox metal shield which really helped (it's a 6-7mm thick shield).

A small update: finally I found out about a possibility to register oficially the new car (Frenchie) using the papers of the old car. The legal procedure involves reusing the old engine of the damaged car, replacing the engine in an 'authorised workshop', oficial inspection of the replacement work and finance office papers changing etc. It will mean some days of running between offices, workshop etc but the overall cost of the procedure is around 450Euros, which is the best option till now :) I'll check if I can make a paper at a lawyer to delegate to my father the whole running so I can spare also time :)

That sounds a good idea, complicated but will be worth the effort to gain one good running car in the process.

Good luck!
