Veggy Oil in Diesel

If your 2.1 is still running on a Lucas IP then I'd be careful. There're several stories of these pumps failing badly after time spent on Veggy Oil unless they are run on diesel until warm first!

The Fuel Filter advice seems about right, again from what has been said in the forum of the site I posted earlier. Once all the sediment is picked up and flushed the car settles down again.

After further reading i'll be trying this once the current tank has been depleted a bit. 1.9 406 TDs seem to be quite happy on a blend of veg/dino, plus I believe the fuel filter is water heated too, which makes it far simpler.

I've probably got about 10 mates who use veggie in their 4X4s, and AFAIK only 2 of them pay any duty at all on it, and no-one's ever mentioned having any problems with the authorities.

because the fuel system is much more advanced. runs at much higher (silly high) pressure, electric control injectors with very fine spray pattern...

I think they will run on it, put i don't think the high pressure pump will last that long because of the extra strain of the thicker liquid.

It's only because of their jobs, can't risk ay kind of legal trouble in case it results in a P45

Better to downgrade to a Bosch pump from a scrappy to be honest. Far simpler mechanicals and it doesn't seem to mind Veggy. Don't know about Walbros though - that might be an option.

Lucas and more modern pumps seem to last only a few thousand miles before popping unless a twin tank system is installed (similar to LPG).

I am not aware of any pump upgrades that are available. EVen if there was likely to cost you more to buy and fit the pump that it would save you, even after a few years running.

If you want to run verg oil you'll need a bosch pumped none HDi engine, as MikeMac said

Having run both my Toyota Estima and my Citroen ZX on veggie for the last 18 months perhaps I can help.
No more than a 50/50 mix is recommended. Some people have run 100% veg but this usually leads to problems.
I use straight veg oil off the supermarket shelf. Some prefer corn oil as it is slightly thinner and smells 'different'
Yes, you will smell like a donut stall and continuously have "the munchies"
Lucas pumps do not like veg, Bosch ones do. The pump problem also affects Toyotas run on more than 50/50. For some reason the veg affects the seals and you get a leaking pump. Doesn't seem to affect the Bosch ones.
Initially, the veg oil MAY drag the crud out of the tank, moreso with steel tanks, not such a problem with plastic ones.
Onced this has settled emissions should be significantly REDUCED.
The law now allows you to 'manufacture' up to 2500 litres a year without paying duty. I manufacture mine by buying it and pouring it in the tank.
HDi's are NOT recommended to run on veg due to the higher pressures used.

shows a picture of a Bosch Pump. There is a difference in the fuel line connections between bosch and Lucas pumps, but I can't remember what it is.

After seeing Diesel pretty much everywhere round by me topping 110.9/111.9 I have decided to take the Veggy plunge. I reckon I'll fill the tank with diesel and around 15-20 litres of SVO straight off the supermarket shelf.

Got a D8 1.9TD so by the sounds of it all should be well. Fingers crossed...
