Adoo all, ( i got me clever hat on today, while i have i'll chuck me couple of quid into this topic, do enjoy as i got a headache now, just hope its worth it ooh and for a giggle ive added a link for you all to see why the HPI is so god damn complex and kicks ass :cheesy:

Ah mr. Dai, i too have some hesitation with rev ranges i think its the nature and possible age of our engines. See from what i can gather there are several stages in the running of our engine, the ones ya can clearly notice are the change in engine revs around 2000 and 3500, From nowt to i think 1500 its in lean burn " homogenous " mode, where the mass of air is greater than that of petrol were the ratio is 1g of petrol to 30g of air, as we both know it sounds like a lumpy tractor in this mode, after this stage stratification takes place, the air and fuel mixed by adding less air, still 1g of fuel to 14.6 g of air, with the gas swirled just underneath the sparkplug electrode for effective burning of the mix ( cus our engines got well weird shaped piston crowns ), the stratification mode stays the same up to the rev range of 3500, after that it just runs rich to suit speed and load. The regulator for the mix comes down to a butterfly valve in the inlet manifold for air, and a few oil filled pistons & motor controls in the fuel pump mounted on the engine block.

the juddering effect as we both all too well know about is from what i can fathom out is in our intake manifold there is a sensor controlled butterfly valve which controls the amount of air entering the cylinders, if you can imagine slowly cruising about 30-ish going down the gears slowly you get a sudden jolt ? this i think is the butterfly valve changing from " stratification mode " to " homogenous mode " imagine the fuel air mix being rich in the first place, then changing to lean, probably when our cars were a bit more new, this changeover was probably smoother, with age, gunk an possibly a few teeth missing of the butterfy valves stepper motor, that changeover has gotten slightly more clunky. Same could be said for when you boot it, ya want speed and ya do get it up to about 2000 revs, then it starts to missfire, well mine did and sometimes still does. Again i think this inlet manifold butterfly valves got something to do with it as 2000 revs is one of the key changeover points for our engine, from one stage to another, praps the valve aint opening quick enough, more than likely from the state of the intake manifold ( im sure your ya know ) is full of black oily atmospheric dumping ground cackishness, making smooth change, not so smooth.

Hope this helps some Dairees, i know it aint quite on the subject of MAF sensor, but i thought it fit quite well just fitting on the back end of the juddery throttle cable jobby.
