All cars should have a plastic sealing panel inside each door card otherwise water will pour into the car!
These must be repaired or replaced if you do any work on the door inside.
Some cars have an aluminium panel with all the working parts fitted to, but they have rubber seals to stop water entering the car.

I had same problem, if you take the drivers seat out and lift the carpet on the loom are some connectors that look like crimps, I found these had corroded so badly the wires were actually broken
If it doesn't fit you need a bigger hammer

If my plastic sheet fix works?
All I can say is that I have not seen any water inside my car since.
If the reason is the plastic or that I have better luck with the weather i do not know...

I sorted my leak, I fitted the replacement door seal incorrectly, but with the ridge at the bottom it kept the water out..

My previous 406 was written off by this - permanent immobiliser fault, the water was getting in via the bonnet pull cable grommet - straight on to the BSI.
