Re: HOW MANY MILES HAS YOUR PUG COVERED?
This is my 2nd 406, having had the 1.9td 90bhp variant previously and I just love it. They arent anything special to look at, but they aint pigs either, but I regard them as being very reliable cars as well as practical and I wouldnt part with mine.
As for the engines, well what can I say. Its the most reliable Ive ever had and it doesnt surprise me when I read some of the mileage statistics achieved on here and other places. They just seem to go on and on and on.
I do most of any repair and maintenance work myself but Im fortunate enough to know a cheap one man band mechanic who is rather cheap (£20 per hour) for any bigger jobs which I aint got the tools for. For example, although they didnt need to be done, I had him fit a new clutch, timing belt and auxiliary belt. My local garage wanted 400 just to fit the clutch, the Peugeot garage wanted 700 for the clutch alone.......he did all 3 for £160. Absolute bargain.
Now this may be a long shot, but does anyone know of a garage in the Newquay area of Cornwall that does dye tests on air-con systems to trace leaks? Mines never worked since I got it and when I went for a top up, thinking that to be the problem, it was found to be leaking.
Thnx in advance

That's 'normal'. I've got most of the receipts from mine's previous owners, which suggest £270 ish for a normal service - that's £10 worth of filters and an oil change!Gary406 wrote:collieman wrote:just a baby at 104,000....last owner had belts done at 97,000.at cost of £395 at arnold clark
£395thats me never going to arnold clark

Admittedly it takes me a morning to do the same, cos I like to let the sump drain forever, but I get change from £30

Re: HOW MANY MILES HAS YOUR PUG COVERED?
I have a
03 HDI 110 Estate SE, I bought it in march 2010 with 147300 it now has 162000 so for me in 5.5months it's done 14700 miles without missing a beat, I wouldn't change it for nufin short of a Ferrari 360, full service history with no expense spared when I picked it up for a mere £1900 the gentleman had left a full tank of fuel new Breaks all round and Exhaust all the way through (ohh and in the centre console there's the correct change for the toll sir), if there's ever a candidate for a million this has a good background i've had a couple 406 se's and this is by far the best
the only thing the stealers could pick up on when I got it serviced was corrosion on the leading edge of the bonnet - No extras on my car for them haha!

My HDI 90 S estate is just approaching 160000. I bought this in Feb 2004 with 6000 on the clock. It's a 53 plate.
Touch wood, no major outage yet. Had a drive shaft replaced a few weeks back due to broken ABS toothed-ring. It's just gone on for the MOT today and have asked for a new timing-belt, while it's in (obviously its third one !!)
Here's to 300k !
