Re: Hdi'm Confused...
So the expansion tank is full up and bubbles being pushed through? I have to say it does kinda point to HG, the hoses will also feel as though they are rock hard and ready to burst?
It's live-withable though I guess and it may be worth trying some K-seal or other type of sealant to see if it helps? I don't suppose you fancy having the HG done on grounds of cost?

I think it is too that's why I went down the garage and booked it back in.. Hope I don't get fobbed off in the morning but I want to watch it being done... K-seal type stuff was already tried before Christmas.Welly wrote:So the expansion tank is full up and bubbles being pushed through? It's livable but I can't do any long journeys in it so it's not really much good to me like this... If they say it's the HG i'll book it in with the mechanic who normally does my work, before Crimbo he quoted £150 labour plus parts and skim..... 300 notes in total maybe?... Could do without it but at least that way I'll know what's wrong.

The white gunk you mentioned earlier doesn't sound familiar to me as anything to do with K-Seal. K-Seal contains copper micro-particles, and you can usually see that coppery bronze colour in the coolant.scotty73 wrote:I think it is too that's why I went down the garage and booked it back in.. Re: Hdi'm Confused...
I used the K seal a few weeks ago and it was definitely the copper stuff, but the other day I used some and it was creamy coloured.
Re: Hdi'm Confused...
This one was creamy or White I did keep the bottle for a few weeks until I emptied the boot to go away.... I'll see if I can see one in the garage tomorrow.

I suppose if you like the car otherwise then £300.00 ish might buy you a usable comfy car for another few years. At least you know the coolant's been flushed

Re: Hdi'm Confused...
I guess that's the next sensible thing to replace. To be fair if you did have a few pin-hole leaks in the rad then sometimes these sealant additives can gunge up in the rad.
So to be straight; the car runs fine but after a while the coolant overheats and over-pressures and blows water out the cap? if that's the case then you are lacking 'cooling' i.e. the rad is not working.
See what jasper reckons?

Re: Hdi'm Confused...
Preasure test it,?
Re: Hdi'm Confused...
Yeah Lozz we've done that... Went to my LMF and said it's either the water pump you replaced or I need a new rad so he sent me to his mechanic to see if water was circulating okay.
Straight away he said yep that's okay but your picking up air somewhere along the line... I told him it seemed to be coming from the return pipe from the rad... He had a little play with that pipe and a load of black stuff shot from the rad into the header tank....Diagnosis blocked rad... I'm fitting a new one in the morning it's due back any time now.
Fingers and everything else crossed.

Ah that's sounds better, fingers crossed you'll be sorted this week.
It's often overlooked but a car's coolant condition is so important.

Re: Hdi'm Confused...
Been driving it around all morning all the pipes and rad were hot when he had a play with it but with the cap on the rad gets cold after only a few miles so the cooling system must be by passing the rad? Maybe.Welly wrote:Ah that's sounds better, fingers crossed you'll be sorted this week.

Re: Hdi'm Confused...
Didn't you say there was pressure in the system with the engine cold?
Did the guys doing the test not comment on that?
Where is this pressure coming from?

Re: Hdi'm Confused...
They just done the test and suggested the rad it's the only part not getting up to temp properly.... I was hoping the blocked rad could cause the pressure?jasper5 wrote:Didn't you say there was pressure in the system with the engine cold?

Re: Hdi'm Confused...
Just my two-penny's worth scotty,
It sounds to me like the rad is definitely blocked & needs replacing.
BUT this is possibly caused by copious amounts of K-seal ect being chucked in, in a failed attempt to seal head gasket fault
.
If your rad is properly blocked this will affect the sniff test.
Just for piece of mind after you've done the rad & bled all the air out of the system, Check it for proper heating cycles & then have another sniff test done.
