It doesn't take much - the restrictor has roughly a 0.5 mm hole through it.
(a 0.25W resistor lead is perfick for clearing same).

I just re-plumbed the vacuum system, so the swirl flap is now disconnected and bypassed, and the blocked exit on the restrictor is a dead end... 8)

I've recently changed my mind on this swirl flap thing. I noticed a bit of a flat spot a few days ago and was wondering what was up. Yesterday I noticed the ball joint had popped off the swirl flap. Put it back on and the performance difference is quite noticeable, especially in the 1750-2000rpm range.

So I reckon they're worth keeping (at least for now) :)

Yes, mine too but when it popped off the flaps seem to rest in the 8v position, so performance was down.
I can easily reinstate it, takes a couple of minutes... 8)

Ah interesting, I'll have to investigate that. Anyway, bet you're glad it's fixed :cheesy:

FWIW I think having the swirl flaps working gives you a marginal improvement in response, so I would definitely keep it......

......unless you've got a 6-speed and your cruising speed is pretty much always < 2100 RPM.

Swirl actuators aren't too tricky to change. When I did mine I was doing the egr blank and the VAC mods so I took everything out but I believe Doggy did his by just un-mounting the tps

When the car is off the actuator arm holds the valves open but as soon as you start the car the vacuum system pulls the swirl flaps closed down to 8v, which is the natural resting place if the arm pops off!
Mine's been disconnected for quite a while now, at the moment it still has a cable tie holding the valves open but I think if i blank off the pipe to the diaphragm i can leave the arm connected and it should just hold the valves open.

Can't say i notice much difference either way though.

It's on the warm weather to-do list........
