Re: v6 engine problem
While you've got the new engine out of the car can I suggest the following preventative maintenance:
New cambelt/tensioner/runners/water pump (obviously)
New thermostat
New sparkplugs (you'll need a new gasket for the inlet manifold when you remove it )
Clean the idle control valve with carb cleaner (it's the silver cylinder behind the throttle body)
Clean the throttle pot with electircal contact cleaner
In fact, I'd clean the whole air intake system with carb cleaner as it can get quite mucky if the previous owners haven't been on the ball with air filter changes. You'll need a new gasket (few pence) for the throttle body
If you've got time to spare, Might be worth taking the sump off and giving it a clean to get rid of all the little metal filings and other assorted crap that might accumulate there
If it's still the original one, check your radiator carefully too while the engine's out and consider replacing it anyway - the V6 ones are known to spring leaks around 100k
I half wish I could get mine out to give it all a good freshening up

<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Re: v6 engine problem
good idea i didnt think to do that was just going to get it in but going by the luck with the last engine its not worth taking the risk thanks for the info

Re: v6 engine problem
Other than the cambelt, etc there's no real risk involved with not doing any of the list (although you don't want a spark plug seizing in) - it's just stuff that's going to be much easier to do while the engine's out, especially the throttle pot. With the engine in place, you need to remove the whole damn throttle body to get at the pot since the brake fluid reservoir is covering the screws
Reminds me I still need to replace my throttle gasket from when I did it...
