PS: what are common rusty points apart from the internal of doors?

I've also got a small bit under the rear number plate around the screw hole. Only common place that I can think of is the underside at the front of the bonnet.

Re: HOW MANY MILES HAS YOUR PUG COVERED?
MILES Miles im so angry about the advest with the cars doing around the clock but every time i have it in the dealer they tell me ooh its done a really high milage 170K . I bought the car ex lease hire at 60k 6 years ago and its not been cheap to keep but its a good workhorse and a looker in green lol so ive done 100k in 6 years mostly the motorway for about 70 k of that. Ive never been hard on it and as i do any work that you dont have to plug the dam thing in for everything has been done regardless of cost. if you dont have to pay a man and look around for parts it can be done just keeping on top of it . not the cheapest tho .
im having a wee problem that the form has helped me out with so here is the story. anyway plugged in it would seam to be the comms 2000 part 6242c2 well amoung the codes. £154 +vat and thats just to get it started lol .
Not one to be beat by the dealer having one delivered direct from NEAT for 125.82 all in (next day)
and they have the cheek to say they are supprised lol must be 10 sellers with a stack of them genuine part ? . i got caught a couple of years ago with a turbo for the same car. had to have the car and it was with them so £1630 with them 900 being the part . after the fact checked with a bosh specialist fitted bosh part £500. why does this happen they are the dealer and ive tried all the local ones and there as bad . blank faces and the i redundant line 'the codes say its one of the following ' sometimes i think the diag plug ,plugs into the till not a reader. im really starting to think apart from a few individuals if you want something more than cosmetics or you have insurance cover go anywere but there as its not mechanics they train and i quote the dealer 'we dont have mechanics anymore its technicians ' so the lesson to learn in that is go for the most angry crabbit old tech no matter what his rank as he usually from my experiance is the only one that can tell you what is happening without plugging it in to his v tech laptop . I go diving in Eygpt and Isreal and there are load of what i think are 505 estates running around . you know the look 5 kids and to baby camels in the back they are still going like trains.
Is it just me or am i wrong to feel cheated by having all of what i would concider to be a car that i have to put the cost of another second hand one into each year (disks ,shoes, pads filters etc) Only to be constantly advised by the dealer that i should really think of a new one there is a lot of problems with 100 k + models of this type .Doesnt say that on the advert
anyway thank you for allowing me to vent and im open to any comments on my thoughts .

I've dealt with two Peugeot dealers while and after buying my 2.2HDi.
Both of them had NO interest in telling me my car had to be replaced or smilar things, but both of them told me that HDi engines usually crap out at less than 250000kms (150000 miles). Here I see many people with 120000 and beyond and not with huge problem, what's up here???
Both dealers have always been very kind and even did some things for free in the past, they are fine guys, I don't think they are trying to bulls**t me.
239,428 miles ( 1.9td 1997 xud9te )if irt wasnt for the broken spring would be racking up a few more miles

Re: HOW MANY MILES HAS YOUR PUG COVERED?
i'm glad to here you didnt have the same problems . as i have had. maybe its because they dont really see many of them but a pug a pug if they make it are they not the supposed to be the best to fix it and if anyone should be able to supply genuine parts at the lowest cost should it not be them ? As for service i've tried our 3 dealersships in the area and i dont really have a good word to say about any of the service departments (apart from individual people) . they are just so vauge about times and costs and the simplest tasks can take 2 hours . and no im not saying in any way a TECHNICIAN would take two hours i would hope ,but in the current climate i need to know the cost not be given a list of maybe s . ive never given anyone anywork apart from what i concider clean work on any car. if its mechanical ill do it myself (luckly to have the health and skill ) its the computer nonscence that kills me. its an electrical control system we are talking about all wires and switches so is it not too much to ask like a TV the manufacturer has a list of every voltage and normal condition of the car that can be metered at specific points ? i think they have ? so why cannot this dealer issue machine and sofware not be able to pinpoint a specific component in the system that is not behaving itself ? Why ??????????? do they need to go back to school ?

Re: HOW MANY MILES HAS YOUR PUG COVERED?
Checked the MOT database and i think the clocks have had a bit of a haircut....
2006 274,063 miles
2007 308,223 miles
2008 39,281 miles
2009 165,994 miles
2010 170,956 miles
By my maths the clocks seem to have lost 270,000 miles somewhere and it's got 179,000 on it now

Re: HOW MANY MILES HAS YOUR PUG COVERED?
Just Passed 98k.
Just out of interest, what do people make of the 406's reliability? I had a 306 XLDT before this and it was just bullet proof. I moved to the 406 for something a bit bigger, as I'm 6ft 5" and the 306 was a bit tight (although managable) and expected the same level of reliability but it simply has not been the case.
I'm not an aggressive driver at all, so if you will take it for granted it is not my driving, the following has been carried out since the car's purchase at 78k miles:
Rear and Center sections of the exhaust replaced (holed)
New water pump
Brake Pipe replacement (corrosion)
New Crankshaft Pulley
Replacement Air intake monitor (old one was faulty)
Both fuel pumps replaced (£1.1k spent on the job -rear pump failed, subsequently causing the high pressure one to fail as it wasn't getting a sufficient supply of diesel)
Four various suspension linkages and ball joiunts replaced
Now, I love my 406, it's why I paid to have all this stuff sorted out - I love the economy, the low cost luxury, the smooth ride and the discrete styling. But these persistent bills are getting old. Is this just the price you pay for owning a 406 or have I bought a dog?
