Clocked 177k this morning.Oringinal fuel pumps injectors etc,dmf & clutch(remapped the 1st week i got it),crank pully,battery,a/c,1 wheel bearing,2 abs sensors, suspension bushes. Most other stuff, shocks springs etc been replaced.Really want a new car as i`ve had it since 2006(`53 plate 2003,56k)but i wonder how long it will keep going
Its funny what different stuff different cars have needed.
On 196k now. Had it since 82k, and it has never let me down. The most 'major' job was the cam belt. Had a bottom pulley, and alternator. Otherwise just 'consumables': tyres, brakes, drop links. However, I know the strut top bearings need replacing, and it would undoubtedly benefit from the suspension re-bushing. The most serious thing it's ever failed an MOT on is a bulb.
The worst problem at the moment is that the front doors don't quite fit as snugly as they should and so cause wind noise.
Likewise, I want a new car as I've had it since 2005 but:
(1) it works
(2) there's nothing to suggest that it won't continue to work
(3) it's very cheap to run
The only reason for getting something newer is that I want to.
I think I'll be ready to throw in the towel by 225k, and that'll take about 18 months to come up...

It is a smart man who keepeth such a car, for he who spendeth his gold coin on a new chariot may findeth he hath bought a shitter which shall soon draineth his money he laboured so long for..........
Actually, it's a tight fisted man who keepeth such a car but I'll make do with wise
I can imagine having a new car (and I've narrowed it down to 2 options), but I can't imagine not having this one. Nevertheless, if it does drop dead right now then I'm having a 1.9.
Just over 202000 miles according to the dash. More than this though as I ran with a dodgy speed sensor for a few months.
Anyone recommend which oil to use? Any particular brand? And to be 100% am I right in thinking its 15w40?
If its a hdi 10/40 or 5/40 is best.Although i have run mine on 15/40 i got from work.I have gone back to 5/40 fully syn again now.4 litres at morrisons was around £21,+ an extra litre for around £5.50p.The cheapest fully syn i have found.
My 2000 glx HDi had done 267k miles. Engine still running well, but both springs broke last week and the steering joint needs replacing. Probably the most reliable car I have owned apart from a 2006 E class Mercedes that did 125k from new in 3 years with nothing apart from a broken windscreen!
322243 miles (518600 km) this friday. Same engine/same gearbox
More reliable and welldriving than my in-Laws 2005 Merc C-class 220CDi with 201300 miles (324000 km) on the counter.

2002 406 2,0 HDi aut. Estate - Daily Driver. Now on 518000 KMs W/same engine/Gearbox :-)
1993 Yamaha XT600e 3UW - the ongoing project...It NEVER ends MUAAAHAHAHAHA
I bought my 03 reg 406 2.0 HDi in 2004. I started out being keen, getting it serviced at 24,000 miles. Then changed my mind and have never had it serviced since.
I have had to shell out for brakes more than once; failed an MOT for brakes once and failed an MOT once because the ABS warning light was on.
I ran it for a couple of years with a "Stop! Engine over temperature" warning and learned to live with it.
Recently I bought an OBDII interface and logged all sorts of stuff, including a start up temp of 215C! Followed quickly by -5C.
In Holland last week, I could not start at all when the outside temperature was -6C.
I am guessing the initial temp of 215C was preventing the glow plugs coming on. Today, I changed the sensor and now get sensible readings.
And the mileage so far: 148,268.
Now I am thinking about treating it to its first replacement cam belt.
On my recent trip to Holland, I was getting around 40mpg on the French & Belgian motorways at approx 75 to 80 mph.
Like RBW (above), careful with my cash and living in Basingstoke. It must be the air here!
