KEY WONT TURN LOCKS?????

Well im frustrated as owt with this one.
My central locking works fine with the remote however the key will not turn any of the door or boot locks. I know that the key & locks are original & have not been changed as my mate bought the car new & then sold it to me 10 years later, V reg 406 HDi.

I recently took battery out of fob to replace it whilst the car was locked (very silly of me i know) & had to break into car to get doors open again as the key would not turn the locks.

Is it possible that the locks have simply seized up after years of not being manually turned? & does anyone have any idea how i can free them as i have tried the usual WD40 without success?

Thanks a lot folks for any advice you can offer.

Glenn. Sunderland.

They may have seized up, that antitheft device on the locks can be a right pain in the neck!
It may be worth heating up the key with a lighter and working it in the lock, I've had luck with that & WD40.

What is it when they spin round then?

I've had them where they didn't turn, and used wd40 to free them up before, but lately the drivers lock has started spinning and takes a few attempts to get it to work :?:

Must be corroded solid, you could try leaving them for 6 months soaking in WD but I think you really need to have them out :(

Just a thought, did you upset any of your neighbours recently?

Not really I'm afraid, apart from having them out. If they're not even spinning then there must be something drastic going on. You could soak them in WD and leave them for a month but I doubt even that would do it :(

Mine spin on both sides, and the boot feels like a different lock, i.e. doesn’t turn at all! WD 40 made no difference at all, unfortunately neither did anything else I tried. Fortunately the remote central locking still works and thus the situation is not desperate or immediate. Recently the key lost both its buttons and protective covers and that caused the micro switch to break off the small circuit board inside the key. It was obviously not designed to be pushed with a finger, pen, key or anything else my wife could find to insert in the hole! So I have had to re-solder the micro switch and turn a small brass “top hat” button to fit and hey presto it works again. The main stealer wanted close to £200 just for a new key so my home brew solution was necessary!

Try lifting the key gently upwards when in the lock - Always seems to work for me! :cheesy:
