Clutch/gearchange problems.

Ok. This is not going well.
My clutch pedal has 'lost' most of it's travel and is now nestling down near the carpet. It's still functioning however but the bite is litterally one degree of flat to the floor. Making stalls and lunges impossible to avoid.
I'm also having trouble getting into and out of gears. Gear change is now VERY stiff an notchy.
Really have to yank the selector into gear and there is an audible (and quite loud) snapping noise as it goes into gear.
There's no grinding though.
The clutch does not slip.
And it pulls well when in gear.

What on earth has happened!??

Anyone have any idea?

You don't say what model you have, but if yours has a cable clutch I would say the cable has broken some strands inside the cable, if it is hydraulic, then check for a hydraulic leak resulting in air in the system causing the problem. You could have a faulty master or slave cylinder.
You could have a damaged pressure plate where the springs have collapsed and only giving you partial release of the spinner plate, hence near the floor biting point.

Cheers very much for the advice mate.
It's a 97 2.0 lx so cable.
Looks like it's nothing simple then.

Bother.

I would change the cable first of all, can't remember what sort of job they are, not done one in years.

Got to be easier than changing the pressure plate.
I'll start there with a cable change then mate.
Cheers again.
