2.1td - HP PAS Pipe Leaking

Post by sixspeed »

Hi,

Looks like we have the same problem that Steve had in this thread with the high pressure PAS pipe leaking big time. I'm assuming the only sensible option is to get it from Peugeot (i.e not worth attemting a repair), has anyone tackled this pipe thermselves or is it best left to the experts?

Cheers,

Jules.

Read the link, I had mine repaired and the ps pump growled loudly whenever I turned the steering so I had to get a real one in the end which was silent (not cheap - try breakers?)

Didn't look too hard to change - undo rack end of pipe, drain fluid, remove pipe, fit new one, fill system while turn steering from lock to lock to get the fluid round, start engine, keep turning the steering and topping up until the level stays up.

Thanks I might tackle it myself then. I'll try the breakers tomorrow, do you know which cars share this part or is it just the 2.1td?

I`ve not long done this pipe on the 2.1 i sold recently. Its not a bad job,a few hours with tea breaks etc.The hardest part/most fiddlely part is routing the new pipe back in place.
The pipe was around £89 from the pug dealer.Once done, its just a case of topping up the pas fluid, turning steering from lock to lock, topping up & so on untill it reachs max level.

I got a price from the dealer today - £94. Did you need any special tools or other fittings/fixtures to complete the job?

I was just watching the mechanic but there didn't seem to be anything special about the tools.

Hmm I didn't think the rack end of the pipe would be accessible without dropping the subframe... Guess I should have a look at doing this job before mine gives up the ghost completely
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Just to provide an update - I got a used pipe off someone breaking their 406, and a friend of mine fitted it for me. He said it was a bit fiddly routing it between the subframe and engine, and it required a bit patience tightening up one or two difficult to reach nuts, but otherwise not too bad and was completed in a couple of hours.
