Just to clarify, its a pretty much constant (Cant hear it as much at high speed, maybe it stops or maybe road noise drowns it out)

Its not a high pitched when when braking.

Its pretty much constant whistle (imagine distant police siren) even when braking.

Ive replaced my nackered discs and pads with some off eBay (Ok ok, dont shoot me - although they are names I havent heard off?)

Pads are 'TruePart or Tru Part. And the discs where LBP or something? Ive never heard of them.

So ive replaced pads and discs. Copper grease on the back of the pads.

Ive driven about 15 miles now at 30, 40 and 70. With some mid-heavy braking from 70-30mph etc 3-4 times.

The brakes work spot on and I got abs to kick in and released some pedal pressure to keep the pressure constant etc.

But, they still whistly?

Do I need MORE copper slip around/on the caliper carrier etc?

Is it just cheap pads and discs 'bedding in' or just crap brake parts?

Well, it didnt make the noise before hand...

Check that the springs on the outside of the pads are not touching the discs.Also check that the backplate is not touching the discs.
Did the pads fit in nice and easy or where they tight in their slots? If they were tight, file the ends until they fit nicely.Also check that the disc is clear from the caliper.
Maybe jack up the car first and turn the wheels to hear the noise.

Ah, I thought perhaps you changed the brakes to try and clear it

the pads where a bit of a snug fit so will look athem tomorrow.

with refernce to the spring clips; what is their purpose?

Anti ratttle spring I think theyre called to stop the pads rattling around had to change one of mine recently

Thank you for the help. I filed a bit off the end of the pads and copper greased where they sit.

That wasn't the problem as when I put the wheel on the problem was obvious that the pads spring was touching the wheel!?!

So I tried to move it but wouldn't give enough clearance so I decided to chop it off. But then the bloody pad warning sensor came off. It's kinda in there in there in but it's not too secure.

I have a rookie question re the brake pads.

all 4 have the anti rattle spring things.

Now, when I put the pads into the caliper housing, do I have to do anything with the spring clip things?

Do I just leave them as they come or do I have to do anything with them?

One of the pads springs was pinched togeter and kinda poked through the caliper housing so something is rattling and i assume its because the spring clips where pinched together rather then been open?

You didn't say whether it was the front or rears...

In either case it could be a seized piston, but in the case of the rear it's likely that you've got a rusted backplate rubbing against your new disc

It was the fronts.

It was my mistake, I had not put the anti-rattple clips in the correct position before putting the caliper down and one was poking through the hole in the caliper to see the pad thickness and scraping the inside of the wheel.

I bought a new set of pads now and fitted correctly and all is good
