My area of expertise is fueling and electronics on HDI engines, 3 times i have had people tell me i'm wrong on here, so i will leave you all to your misinformation from other members and find myself somewhere a bit more technical and friendly than this place, i wont be posting on here anymore, but if anyone does need any help i will see pm's in my email

It doesn't need to come to this, TD, anyone's input is always welcome around here.

Well, there was nothing personal from my point of view, I have been around cars a long time, I have my own way of working, some people don't agree with not going by the book, so be it.
I respect your opinion, I have another, such is life.
In my time on this forum everyone's opinion has been respected and their input gratefully received.
I apologise if I upset you by disagreeing with you, but as I said, nothing personal.

To be fair, we were both guilty of hijacking a good thread by Jon, I have already apologised for my part in that.I was only trying to help Jon with my experience.

TD,

Please don't take offence, especially on my behalf, reading my thread I certainly didn’t get the feeling that you were being told you were wrong, just that there was another method that could be used, and had been used successfully by another member. Having these detailed discussions between people who would otherwise never meet is one of the great powers of the internet and forums like these. I for one am very interested in all points of view and technical discussions wherever they occur. Indeed I gain much valuable knowledge from them (although I take everything with a pinch of salt and apply my engineering principles before I will implement them) and often they give me another view to ponder.

So in short, TD your voice, your advice and your company is welcomed and heeded.

What do you know about fueling and electronics on the Lucas EPIC system? I'm an electronics engineer with 22 years experience of everything other than vehicle electronics.

To be fair everyone is entitled to give their input and all input is valued. With 3000 members we're bound to get occasional conflicts of opinion. As long as the conflicts don't get personal or offensive then it all adds to the richness of the community that we all work hard to build and sustain.

I'm not sure that anyone's really telling you you're wrong TD, I've noticed a couple of occasions where other users have identified alternative methods than those you use, those methods may or may not be text book or even valid, but the whole purpose of a forum is to allow people to share information for the benefit of other users. If you feel strongly about some of the suggestions the way to deal with it is to use the data and information avaialble to you to turn opinions into facts or fictions. I often post "I do it this way...." or "I find it easier to...." information, you may quite correctly point out potential problems with those methods that I hadn't noticed but you may also find that I've come up with something you hadn't thought of (yeah I know that's unlikely    ).

If everyone who had a disagreement stopped posting on the forum it'd quickly be like a ghost town. A technical forum needs as much technical expertise as it can get! And as for friendly, this one is the friendliest I've ever seen! Don't give up!

While I wouldn't claim to have any expertise that's specific to vehicles, I've spent half a lifetime resolving electrical/electronic/computer issues and there are some things I do know about. I have occasionally felt miffed when ignored or contradicted, (something virtually unheard of in my professional life), but have learned to accept that's what forums are like. I still believe this is a good un and worth the occasional exasperation.

As the others have said, I really value TD's contribution & hope he will reconsider.

Not true at all mate! The forum has had its fair share of arguments in the past but as the other guys say, those of us with less experience find the debates invaluable! It's a privilege for us to have trained mechanics visiting here and giving advice.
There will always be personality clashes and differences of opinion on a public forum, you mustn't take it personally.
I usually find myself playing the diplomat until someone really pisses me off
