So, the misses rings me last Wednesday to say she was driving the 90HDi 406 Estate (W Reg) at about 40-50mph and it suddenly lurched forward and started making a bad rattling sound.

My first thoughts where the Crank shaft pulley has finally given up the ghost.

We took it to our local garage and he said he is aware of the issues and potential of the crankshaft pulley can cause and woud look into to it and let us know.

Thursday, she gets a call to say.... its power steering pump? :?

Now, she has never mentioned to me heavy steering and ive certainly not heard any whining etc.

So, he said he is ordering the part from France (Pug) as he can not get it from his usual suppliers.

7 days later, still no pump, still no car

Now, im no mechanical by any means, just an enthaust wit some DIY knowledge, but can the PAS PUMP make a rattle/tappety sound like the crankshaft pulley, while there is no other symptons with the steering?

Also, where can I get a new PAS pump from???

Hi
My pas pump is on the way out steering is randomly heavy. Bought a pas pump off ebay for £35 got a mechanic fitting it on monday @ £55 for 1.5 hrs labour which isn't bad.s

If you want a brand new one try eurocarparts or gsf or a local motor factors. Range in price from just over £100- £130 depending which one you go for. Hope this helps

I suppose the tricky part of fitting the pump is dealing with the fluid - like brake fluid it's not pleasant stuff to work with.

ps fluid? It's just atf, it doesn't eat everything it touches like brake fluid.
