Someone filled up my car for me

Hello,
This morning I got into my car and noticed that my fuel gauge was I reading an almost full tank reading. Not quite full but within the "full" zone. Yesterday evening, it was 3/4's full! Is this the dreaded lift pump fault? I tried banging the rear seat in hope that it would un-stick something but it didn't do anything. The trip computer is saying that I have 590 miles to go till empty, which sounds about right for a nearly full tank for me (so far, London driving is averaging at 29mpg). So I guess it's not the dashboard that's playing up as the tip computer agrees with it...
Anything I can check before I start removing the seat etc. to get to the lift pump?
Cheers
CJ

D'ya know what I'd do Cap'n? Ignore it and leave it alone until it happens at least a few more times. Could just be a gremlin

changes in temperature can have an effect , gas and liquids expand
and contract according to temperature . In summer on the odd hot
day we get if my car has been standing in the sun when i go to it
it quite often reads slightly higher than when i parked it up

Perhaps it's the same person that fills mine up to half way when I was expecting to need to fill up...
Nothing to do with the lift pump, other than the fuel level sender is part of it

Happens with mine occaisionally. You'll need to fill the car up past where it's stuck and that should sort it.

Been out today and it's still the same but gone down slightly with usage. Reading around 1/4 tank higher than it should. Will fill it up when I get paid so we'll see if that sorts it!
Thanks guys.

Could be the bad solder on the posts issue that's been on here in the past.
Mine is needing re-soldered and is reading erratically again.
Check for posts relating to dodgy speedos or tachos and the fix is the same.
I did a "how to" ages ago so if you search my postings it should still be in among them.
Hope that helps
Steve

This happened to the Volvo a couple of weeks ago. I sloshed in £15.00 (could only get 95 ron from the place

) then I parked up for 20 mins and upon my return I had a full tank
Took ages for it to settle back down and then it just went back to normal
