Model Identity, etc

I'm about to embark on replacing the clutch on my 2002 406 Diesel HDi estate. Is there any way I can get a detailed listing of the technical spec for the vehicle from the VIN number?

I'm thinking of things like transmission types, etc Dual mass flywheel or not. Is it a 90 or a 110.

I need to be sure of these things prior to ordering the parts.

Thanks.
T.

Another member with (a working) access to Service Box will be able to give you part numbers I hope but in the meantime the way to tell a 90 from a 110 is that the 110 has a 3" diameter black air hose running front to back as you look at the engine (to the right of the cylinder head) - this is the hose from the intercooler whereas the 90 doesn't have one.

The 110 has a DMF, the 90 is a solid flywheel.

The clutch change on a 406 is a horrible task if you weren't aware, and books as a 9 hour job for a skilled mechanic I think!

Hope this helps for now.

205's?

I thought the standard was 195 on saloons and estates

I thought that was lower power ones, although my 2.1td D8 estate came with 195s yet my 2.0HDi has 205s. Maybe it was whatever they had on the shelf...

This is fantastic, just what I need, Thanks very much.

Now I need to decide if I'm going to attempt the clutch replacement myself or get it done elsewhere. I'm not put off by the workload, but I don't really have very good facilities in which to work.

Good news on the flywheel, though. I was horrified to see the cost of a DMF.

Terry.
