Re: engine running tempature
Which engine?
My 1.8 16v petrol runs at 90 C, that's as hot as it ever gets.

My 110hdi sits at 80c most of the time, unless booting it or going up very long hill, then might creep up to 85

Re: engine running tempature
The thermostat's generally seem to be rated at 83c, my 2l petrol turbo stays around 80; if in traffic it'll creep up to 90.

Re: engine running tempature
Do you mean it settles at 90 while you're driving and then cools down?

Re: engine running tempature
It may not be a problem as it's not getting above 90, but I'd check your coolant level and bleed the system for good measure.pug406glx wrote:teamster1975 wrote:Do you mean it settles at 90 while you're driving and then cools down?

Re: engine running tempature
My 110 hdi sits at 88,with the needle just below 90.Has done from new.Sometimes when towing the caravan up hill in the summer it will go up to 100.I have just changed the temp sensor,& new stat & flushed the system & refilled with new anti freeze & it still sits just below 90.
I have had the temp gauge needle off the scale at 110 before with the stop light flashing in Italy, but as i was lugging up hill foot to the floor with the caravan in 3 rd gear,i could`nt pull over
.Never did it no harm.

Re: engine running tempature
while on freeway cruising it all depends on the thermostat temperature. Mine (thermo is removed so it sometimes) goes down to 70 which is not good.
Fans suppose to kick in (when A/C switched off) at 92 degrees, means slightly above 90 mark and works till needle goes slightly below 90 mark. In bumper to bumper traffic and stand still temp gauge will move in between 92 ~ 88 range.

Re: engine running tempature
My Hdi's have always sat at 90, on the coolant gauge.
Since ive had the rapier - with an oil temp gauge (just like my gti6!!!) thats normally about 90-100. On a constant motorway trip, its approx 105 - 110, that sat at 85mph, full loaded hour after hour.

Re: engine running tempature
my 90 HDi has always sat at just under 90 and thats summer, winter, germany
, poland
and in the UK,
pretty much never goes over 90 no matter how hard i drive it, if it wasnt for the slow rise on starting i would be doubtful over the gauges efficacy

Re: engine running tempature
I had a new thermostat and coolant change fitted by the Peugeot dealer as soon as I bought my HDi 110.
I can state without doubt that this is how the gauge should work.......
The temperature will rise slowly to begin with, and stay fairly low for the first couple of miles. Then a steady increase will occur until the needle points directly at the number 9 of the '90' on the temp gauge. The needle will stay at this '9' for the rest of the journey and never move up or down.
It can take maybe 5 miles for it to reach 9. If you left home and crawled in slow traffic for 20 mins or so the gauge will still reach full temp so it is not dependant on load or speed.
Any behavior other than this is a faulty thermostat or other coolant-related problem.
