HDI 90 Acceleration Question

Just a quick question about my HDI 90. Its running really sweetly atm but I've always felt let down by the acceleration, yesterday especially, when I was coming off a slip road into traffic. I really needed some extra 'poke' to safely get out in front of another car. Anyways, I find that my car pulls really well until about 3100rpm and then nothing, time for a gear change.

1. Is this how all HDI 90's operate or should I be getting a bit more 'pull' through the rev range?
2. I've been contemplating a Remap since I got the car, I know it will increase torque but will it improve how its delivered i.e. across more of the rev range?

Thanks in advance :)

you see you put acceleration and HDI 90 in the same sentence there, thats a no no im afraid.

mine is the same, the peak power deliver is between about 1900-3000 rpm on my 90 too, i think thats all they have :(

cant say its caused too many probs for me just had to change my driving style to compensate, i have come from a big BMW to mine and i just accept thats the price you pay for downgrading and saving in fuel costs.

as for the remap i couldnt tell u on one of these, but in the past i have had petrol cars done and its like getting a new motor, hopefully somebody will be along soon with a remapped 90 to tell all.

* EDIT: been teaching bloody English all day and just re-read this, if one of my students had spelling like this i would kill em, sorry guys im really tired.

In the 90 you really to get the best out of the turbo and it basically switches off at 3k rpm. Best thing to get the full grunt from it is to sit at 1800rpm before you want to take off and then plant the foot and change up shortly before 3k rpm. I always found that 3rd gear was fantastic in the 90 and i could get from 35mph to 70mph in no time in 3rd when using the turbo properly!!

You can get the car remapped to leave the turbo running for longer too

I agree with Eoin and 7403406.

Having came from a 2.0 Twinspark Alfa, the lack of power took a while to get used to in my HDi 90.

However, the turbo is very useful indeed. It does indeed kick in around 1800 -> 3000 rpm.

I find myself, when I want a burst of acceleration, checking the rev counter more often.
It can be actually be a bit fun sometimes, tootling along, fire up the turbo, tootle along again, agree with Eoin - 3rd gear is my favourite :)

Think of the fuel economy! :)

Cheers for the responses guys, I would have to say 5th gear is my favourite on the motorway, sitting at 70mph you can very quickly shoot the car up to 80/90 to overtake :)

This interests me more than any power gains to be honest, my 405 ran to around the 4000rpm mark which was nice when you were overtaking or on a 'spirited' drive. :D

The 110's best power is between 1800-2800 rpm so I'd say this car is working properly.

Remaping a 90 gives some surprising results apparently with close-to 120bhp available. Also the word is that once remaped the power will still be there right through the rev range and you'll be seeing the rev counter in the red for the first time ever :o

If I had a 90 a remap would be the first job given that the rest of the thing is simpler than a 110 you'd have the best of both
