406 GTX 2ltr petrol wont start

I started a thread saying hello and stating a problem i have got with a car i got from the parents

Its a 2ltr GTX petrol. It had been sitting for a while because of a PAS leak. I had fixed this so started her up first time no problem. Got to top of drive and it cut out and would not start again.

Once again the car was left without a battery for a month or so, until i decided to give it a go see if it would start, and to my amazement it did. But only about 4 times. And now is back to just turning over and over and not starting.

Any ideas what i should try to get the car started.

Thanks John

Check the inertia switch out of curiosity! Should be near the rear RH side of the engine bay.
Have you checked what I suggested in your other post? I'd pick yourself up a Haynes if you haven't already :)

Tried the inertia still no luck. pretty sure fuel is ok and spark, will try you other suggestion. Haynes is somewhere in the shed been a long time since i used one.

I was thinking of hardwiring the lift pump just incase there is a fuel problem.

All petrols use a lift pump, carbs or injection, otherwise there is nothing to push the petrol out the injectors or into the carb ;)

That's where I got my wires crossed, I thought that only Hdi's had an in tank pump :)
(Mind you I'm no expert mechanic, I just go by what I pick up on here! )
