20 second mod on an HDI

As the title!!
Was reading through the net last night and loads of people with 306 HDI's have unplugged the sensor for the EGR thus stopping the gasses running through a restrictive chamber (That's what I kind of understood?!)
Anyway.... The 406 110 HDI is a bit different in it's housing for the EGR plug compared to the 306 90 HDI. There are 3 little chamber things sitauted on the bulkhead, the Blue Plug lives in the middle one, I took a pic of it for those who may want to try this mod'.
It's just a case of unplugging the Blue Plug and tucking it away......I just put it through one of the other wires as shown on pic.
Results..... A lot better throttle responce and a nice smooth pick up, definatley worth it

I have also read that it does not effect the MPG

To describe without a pic in the meantime....... Looking at the engine from standing at the front of the car you will see the plastic cover with HDI on it. If you follow the H backwards to the bulkhead, it's there that the 3 little chamber things are on. The middle 'chamber' has a blue plug, it's this one that needs to be unplugged
You will feel a differance straight away once unplugged!

would it not do the car harm, surely peugeot has it in there for a good reason

Its the EGR control solonoid.
EGR is there for cleaner emissions (Exhaust Gas Recirculation)
It just takes some of the exhaust gasses out the exhaust, puts them back in the inlet and reburns them.
I wouldnt damage the engine in anyway doing this, but i would be surprised if it didnt put the engine fault light on

Great work, Im away out to test this now! Read through the thread and there hasn't appeared to have been any side effects other than slightly lower efficiency when running cold, but as its summer this shouldnt be an issue. Will report back my findings

i read the thingy and it was very detailed, but im more worried about causing irreversable damage to the 406s fragile electrics if the engine warning light comes on will it go off again if the plug is put back in

Initial findings: Right, Ive covered a fair few miles today and generally I've been horsing it to see if I can detect a difference as I'm generally pretty sceptical about disconnecting sensors etc. for performance gains.
What I've found is that there is a slight increase in acceleration and responsivenss. Also the delivery of power seems a tad smoother. What I hadnt expected was for my long-term average MPG to INCREASE

Especially when I've been pushing on. Its jumped from 49,6mpg to 50,4mpg. I can also report that no warning lights have appeared on my dashboard

I don't think I'll be pluging this sensor back on in a hurry

Hello all,
Quick question does the 90 have this too, or is it just the 110 with the EGR, had a look at my bulk head and i have only one thing that looks like the jobbie in the pic, although there is definitely mountings for three thingy ma bobs i only have one
im all for trying this out as a little more smoke out here wouldn't even be noticed compared to some of the cars chugging about

Im just looking to tinker i s'pose not really needing any extra power as all i do is potter back and forth to work in some bloody awful traffic

but its something to do on a boring Saturday afternoon as the wife and child are out at the mother in-laws and i should be working preparing stuff for next weeks lesson but i really CBA

.
So if anyone knows if the 90 has it too and can let me know asap i will go out and d!ck about on the car instead of sitting in front of the pc looking at anything other than work related materials

20 second mod indeed!!
I think you must have stopped for a brew in the process
it makes a noticeable difference at low revs, the car feels smoother and seems to pull a little better below the 1800 rpm mark after that i couldnt notice any difference but i suppose thats when the turbo kicks in and that kind of takes over.
but it seems a worthwhile tinker for a 5 second job, and if it does nowt then you can plug it back in,no EML on or any other noticeable difference other than the smoother running and pulling at low revs, i will run it like this for a while and report back in a week or so on anything that creeps up i will let you know, might even re-set the obc and see what it reports back on the mpg figures.

th EGR valve is used to lower combustion temperatures and therefore decrease NOx output. Upon normal driving conditions the engine will allow a small amount of gas to recircluate back into the cylinders, purely as exhaust gas cant be burnt efficiently and so cumbustion temperatures drop and then NOx production also decreases.
I would be worried about long term side effects of higher combustion temps in an engine that isnt "mapped" for it, let alone if i was going to pull the "green" card and say that NOx is a major contributor to acid rain

(not really me!)
