I was looking at those chips on ebay for my 110bhp diesel and they seem good value at just £100 for getting the car up to 140bhp, but whats the catch with these chips, and why if it is possible on the 2.0l diesels to get 140bhp does the 2.2 exhist. Is it good for the car to put out 140bhp, im after more fuel economy after anything so how can more power give better economy and why does a citroen c4 with a 1.6 have 110bhp

The more power you get out of an engine the more it's going to need looking after.
Just about all engines are tuned for reliability and to allow for bad fuel, bad driving and bad servicing.
You might be able to get 200 bhp out of your 2.0 HDi, but don't expect it to last long!

im not looking big power increases 200bhp is mad in a front wheel drive car but these 140bhp remaps seem to be popular for the 406 are they any good, and why get a remap when a chip can do the same thing

The consensus seems to be a remap is tailored to your engine, a chip ups the fuel pressure by lying to the ecu but won't give you the same gains in power/economy as a remap. I guess it's the same difference as blueprinting/sticking a sodding great Weber on. I suppose, at the end of the day, the choice is yours

I wouldnt touch those chips to be honest, as steve said the chip just tricks the car into keeping the fuel pressure high, which will be bad for the life of your high pressure pump.

it will also be bad for you fuel economy, the pumps have 3 cylinders that provide the pressure to your injectors, the gain economy they have a feature which allows you to shut off the 3rd one when its not needed, e.g. on idle, cruising etc

my guess it it just forces it to keep pumping

which makes the pump harder to turn, which will drop economy, and shorten the life of your timing belt.




The remaps work differently, each ecu has a "map" on it, which is just a set of instructions for the engine to go by depending on what you ask it to do, how much load is on it etc. by changing the map they change things like, the timing of the fuel injections, how often and when the egr is opened, etc.

They are more expensive, but its the only real way to do it

as they say, you get what you pay for lol

the quality of the remap does depend on the quality of the person who designed the new map though, thats the only thing lol.

I'm getting mine re-mapped next week, she is a 110 HDI.

Also have a couple of other mods to help....... Disconected EGR and getting her de-Catted. The De-cat help's spool the Turbo up quicker, this combined with a re-map and no EGR should prve interesting!

Obviously it's not going to be the same performance as my 349bhp Saph Cossie but it's sure going to beat an average of 16.2mpg and with a lot more comfort!

can the car get throught the mot ok with a remap done, does the emissions not change

I think this answers your question , mot's are not a problem .

I remapped mine over 2 years ago and it was best money i ever spent on the car, everyone who drives it its shocked at how well the car goes and had a few offers to buy it!!!

it sounds good that the price even includes the technician coming to my address, i intend to get what it calls the eco tune, bringing the bhp up to 136 but is this a good thing for my car which as standard is 110, and can it actually improve economy

I don't think that ad is very convincing as many of their numbers are clearly wrong. The other thing to consider, is that they are almost certainly going to give you a 'generic' modified file, whereas some places will tailor what they're doing to your car, for similar cost.

(In fairness, the 'one size fits all' method is what I used to remap mine last week and I'm still chuckling at the results). A few public-spirited members on the coupe forum uploaded their modified files for anyone to use, and provided a link to a source or the necessary programming equipment to install it a minimal cost. Result: I and quite a few other 2.2 owners have 180 BHP remaps, for £25!

Now this precedent has been set, there's no reason for 110 / 90 owners not to do the same, someone's bound to do it soon.

Failing that, there are several 110 owners on here with 140 BHP remaps that they're happy with, maybe you could get a recommendation from one of them.

Had mine done over 3 yrs ago , more torque , faster , better fuel economy and no problems
