They will survive......

Whoops I did it again,
I've been a bit too quiet on here lately!
I saw a very slight fray on the drivebelt but work pressure stopped me from replacing it for two days.
Having replaced the cambelt &tensioners, alternator, crank pulley and drivebelt tensioner all in the last 30k I thought I'd be ok but No! I was pushing my luck again......And..On the way to buy the new belt......
Accellerating full throttle in 2nd at 4000revs, half of the drivebelt let go and entered the cambelt cover with the usual disastrous consequences. And on the way to school with an exam 30mins later. Wasnt far from home so ran back and grabbed the wife's tonka toy ( a City Rover with a Pug engine) and made it on time , to my step daughters relief..just.
So the AA towed me in and when it got stripped down , all 8 cam followers were smashed, a valve spring snapped and two sets of collets gone. One set dropping into the valve seat area. The engines done 220k so I'd fully expected to get a new one.
Luckily ..All the valves and pistons remained intact and £500 quid later we were back on the road again. Now this has happened twice on the same engine so I guess it proves the hardiness of them. Still got the hissy turbo but i can live with it yet still doing 37-8 mpg taxiing. A 1.9 would have given much more notice but not survived so I'm lucky I suppose!
Shortly I'll be doing the strut bearings and wing swopover so I'll put some pix up for you.
If you want to see the motor itself...google maps it up using 'Chester Gorse stacks' on the maps tap and see it at work on 'street view'.
I saw the google camera car going past an gave them the finger but they've blanked me out!! lol
