Does my MPG sound about right?

Reading through many threads on here and it looks like the average HDI is returning 50+ MPG.
I'm getting 43 MPG out of mine. This is 17 miles a day, some country lanes and A roads and driving with ease.....I don't go over 3,000rpm most days as want to economise.
My car....
406 HDI 110. Full service history with last full service being carried out 900 miles ago. She has covered 112,000 miles. She has only had 2 owners and been very well loved.
Very low power till 3,000rpm when she comes on boost, this seems strange aswell as it seems they are meant to come on boost around 1,800rpm?

43 aint too bad, the 50's only seem to be realised after 50 miles or so of continued steady driving.
You probably could achieve a bit more over 17 miles though but your 3000 rpm boost sounds a little strange as my old 110 would start running out of breath over 3000
Tyre pressures are very important to the economy and you need 33PSi all round for best economy.

my 90 HDI gives me about 53 ish combined now, but bare in mind i actively try to get decent mpg, so my driving style and right foot are both very concious of the fact.
tyre pressures are very important, as Welly said.
As I live in Euro-land my pressures are set to 2.4 and 2.5 bar which is around the 34 to 36 psi range, but this is to cope with the bloody awful roads and i often seem to be lugging about a fair bit of weight recently (no not just me

) so this is a good range for me.
i also use a fuel additive, millers ecomax i think its called it gives me another 3-4 mpg i reckon on a decent run.
I have no issues with the AC using up any engine power as its totally fecked (condenser rotted through

)and the compressor never kicks in so never effects the engine power or economy.
and lastly the power thing on yours, after 3000rpm you say, well that sounds iffy, could it have been remapped by a previous owner?
the HDis peak power/torque from the turbo is between 1800-3000 rpm i hear, so it sounds like yours might not be quite right or maybe its something to do with the 3rd piston on the HP fuel pump that kicks in at 3200rpm, sadly im just guessing as its not really my bag,
but squeezing better consumption out of the pug is, had her at 74.5mpg over 200 miles in the uk loaded to the roof with belongings when we moved over here for the first time, but the roads here arent built for that kind of driving and have to put up with low 50's from her now

I must admit there seems to be good'uns and bad'uns with HDi's with the resulting mpg's varying widely.
Mine was very consistant..33mpg winter, 37mpg summer rising to 50 at best on a long easy run. I drove it briskly and it's why I went for a Petrol car again in the end cos the difference in fuel use was not too bad

sounds about right to me, mine does about the same, though the boost is odd. mine is 1800-3000 ish and as others have said, will go above 3000 but runs out of puff shortly after.

my 406 HDi 110 got me about 45MPG last fill up. That was mostly rural driving, with a heavy right foot, and some inner-town driving. I also think my tyres are a little flat and could probably use some oil.
80litre-ish tank, got near a month out of it. Cost me £98 though...

I hammer mine all over and drive quite hard and am getting between 35-40 mpg.

I worked it out at 45mpg, but for the size of the tank in the 406 a fill up is a costly affair, could 50mpg be squeezed out of the car easily. I know with a trailer on the back fuel economy isnt worth thinking about
