After my little fun with my tank fuel pump, and the locking ring problem, I now have tha car back on the road again.
However.....
At tick over it misses a beat, kinda like a petrol car whose got one of it's spark plugs going down.
I think it may have air in the system, but how do you get rid of/check it has?
On the wifes Xsara HDi, which is an 02 plate, there is a priming bulb/pump at the front of the block.

Did you change the fuel filter after the lift pump was replaced?
i did my lift pump a while ago and was told by a few people it was a good idea to change the filter after,(never did though
)
as the pump failing may have put some crap through the system and also when you change the lift pump you are bound to stir up any crap thats at the bottom of the tank, just a thought
Im afraid i havent got a clue on bleeding the system other than the obvious one on the front of the fuel filter housing, but i always thought that was more for water and contaminants in the fuel rather than air, but might be worth a twist and see

mines is doing the exact same but i cant get the locking ring off its stuck lol i was speaking to a man yesterday who took out a fuel pump from a 406 hdi 110 he took it apart and when the actual pump comes out there is like a mesh filter on the bottom of it his was covered in crap he gave it a good clean reassembled and it cured the misfire sound on tick over also he changed the fuel filter and redex through the system i was going to try this with mine but cant get the locking ring off

Several people have investigated their fuel pick-ups recently. Some have found them clogged with gunk, others like myself have found them clean as a whistle.
Once the engine has run up, any air trapped in the system *should* find its way through very quickly, it can just be a problem getting it started sometimes after say a filter change or running out of fuel. It is possible that the system is drawing in air through a pin-hole leak somewhere.
Anyway, for starters change the fuel and air filters, these are cheap parts and easily done. Get them from a dealership, don't use Tesco Value ones. and throw some redex or similar in with the new fuel filter.
