Engine Trays

I've been running my 406 without the engine trays for a couple of weeks now. After refitting the exhaust I couldn't be arsed putting them back on and together they weight a good bit and didn't appear to serve much purpose. My main concern about not having the engine trays is that the auxilary belt (if thats what they call it these days

) is pretty exposed. I had a look under my dads 405 for reference and there's a plastic shroud which cups around the belt at its lowest point which suggests to me that dirt and small stones could be hazardous and the 405 belt doesnt come as close to the ground as the 406's does.
Does anyone on here run their 406 without the engine trays? Am I liable to do damage without having them on?

Neither of mine left the factory with one but I notice the HDi doesn't like me driving through puddles as the aux belt screams afterwards. I'd put one on it but I can either buy one at full price from Pug (well over a ton) or make one out of cardboard.

Mine flew off one day and was never to be seen again
I think they do a very important job of keeping the engine bay clean (French electrics) and further the tray assists the correct flow of air through the radiator...over the back of the engine...down past the Turbo (nice bit of cooling)...and out underneath behind the sump.
Without an undertray there'd be buffeting about underneath and increased resistance etc. The 406's undertray is quite measly when you compare it to BMW's and other quality marques - they've got huge trays and you can't see one mechanical bit when you look under there
The other job it does is one of noise reduction, I noticed this as soon as my tray left me
The biggest problem with the 406's tray is the fixings are shyte

get busy with some big washers and tie-wraps!

I still want to find out about this sump guard in Service Box - is it really sheet metal and will it fit? I guess the only way to find out would be to buy one

Any sort of sump guard would be metal I would think. It must be bolted front and back to something.
One of the (non UK) factory options I seem to recall was a 'beefed up' 406 with uprated sussy and stuff for shitty roads.....err, like ours now

For D8s it's "Grand export", for D9s it's "bad terrain". Bash plate and two brackets 146 quid, undertray (minus fixings) is 160, I know which I'd prefer
Have a pic:

I like the sound of that there Bash Plate
Looks like it may also come complete with a no-need-to-take-me-off holey for oil changes
I insist you get one and do a how-to

Sorry old bean, no can do

there's cutbacks at Welly Towers. All non-essential spending is on hold, bracing for a rough ride....
Polskipug - I think you'll be onto a wild Goose chase trying to source the beefed-up stuff

you might have to settle with smashing yours to bits

Undertray or food?
If it helps, when I Googled the part number the majority of hits were in Russian...
