Hi Chaps

My D9 Hdi 90 has an annoying squeeky screach when idleing, which ive diagnosed to be the bottom pulley, The chap I got the car off says it has been doing it for months

Anyway ive been quoted £45 (mates rates) to get the pulley replaced, which includes the replacement pulley (guy used to work on pugs so has a shed full of bits, does that sound reasonable, would it also be a good idea to get him to check the cambelt also?

cheers for any info :)

Sounds cheap enough.

You can't really check a cambelt without taking it off and turning it 'inside-out' so inspect for cracks on the teeth - then of course you're 75% of the way through replacing the thing anyway :|

We always say to replace the cambelt 'Kit' including all the idlers etc and also pop in a new water pump for what it costs.

Cambelts should be replaced every 96,000 miles or 5 years.

Sounds far too cheap

Pulley cost me just over £80, so he must be fitting an old one he has lying about.
As it's something which if it fails "could" damage your engine, I personally wouldn't risk it.
I usually get most bits from the factors, but this is one part I happily bought from the stealer

Plus everyone will tell you to change the belt, which I think cost me £17 IIRC, and many will tell you to change the water pump whilst at it

**EDIT** beaten to it by welly

The £45 to replace the pulley with another one sounded ok to me but yes, make sure the replacement is in good condition (another difficult to do thing) :|
