Need help finding a speedo cable for a 405

Post by CountryPug »

My dads 405 (93' 2.0 8v auto) estate has not had a working speedo for several months and its now approaching MOT time. He went to Pug this morning but they no longer stock the part. Been on to ebay and there is one listed but he reckons the one in his car is different..? Any previous 405 owners know if there were different speedo cables and were I could find one online?

Thanks for the link, that appears to be the right cable going by the engine code. Ordered it despite the extortionate delivery fee of nearly £18 to NI

Thanks again.

This might sound crazy but I didn't think you'd actually need a working speedo for an MOT (unless it's different in NI?).

I can't say I've seen it being checked (unless the brake tester allows them to check the speedo needle on the sly? :?

Personally I'm not sure if its a requirement but my dad seems to think so. He's been using the Sat Nav as his speedo for these past few months and the screen either shows your speed or where you are going, but not both (much like that new Ferrari 458 :D). He's had a couple of near misses with speed cameras too (not knowing what speed he's been doing when facing a mobile unit) so it'll give him peace of mind if nothing else.
