hi there once again my muched love pug is sick

406
2.0 hdi 2002

i noticed a little back pressure on the engine when i saw dip stick rising up a little but no signs of oil
a week later i now have the engine managment light up with antipollution warning
i noticed the breather pipe from the rocker to the engine seems very hard, could this be blocked or could it be some other problem,
any input would be greatly appreciated
thanks

Are you absolutely sure its back pressure lifting the dip stick?

the HDI engine cover is famous for working loose on the mountings and then the subsequent movement of the engine cover lifts the dipstick, did it on mine so i removed the engine cover and installed it in the shed till i sell the wreck, since then the dipstick hasn't moved a millimetre.

worth checking first as it eliminates a lot of stress and wonder regarding back pressure and the like.

Check it and get back to us if its not this then its time for the mechanics amongst us to offer up some more "helpful" advice.

nope still does it
but the pipe that comes from the rocker to the block seems to be very hard but not sure if it is meant to be
hopefully someone can tell if it is a breather pipe that might be blocked and whether this could resolve the anti pollution fault

That's a fairly large pipe, quite hard to block I would have thought. Still, if you suspect it then whip it off and have a look. You'll have to cut the old clips off and replace with a couple of jubilees. There's also a pipe from the end of the rocker cover to the inlet - #2 here:

Might be worth investigating too.

I think these pipes are a plastic reinforced with some sort of fibre, so it's also possible they can separate inside and block up that way.

i looked at the smaller pipe at the back and it doesnt seem to have a great seal also it seems to have been shortened at some stage and has tie-raps holding it so im going to take that of and possibly renew it do i use jubilee clips instead of ties ?

I reckon they'd be more secure.
