Hi i've not long bought a 406 (XUD turbo diesel)
I have a large oil leak, coming from (what i think) is a pipe just above the starter motor, i was just wondering if anyone could tell me whether this could be true or not, as i dont know if it is even an oil pipe!
There is also oil all over the back of the car but i think its just running down and hitting the flywheel which is in turn coating the back of the engine.
Im sorry about my description but i am no mechanic to say the least!
Thanks in advance
Ciaran

Re: Oil leak :(
Welcome in mate!
Check you haven't got any leaks from the power steering pump & hoses. I had what I thought was an oil leak for ages and eventually tracked it down to a weep in one of the PAS pipes, fluid running down the hose and splattering the underside of the engine.
I would also degrease the whole area and take the car for a run; this will give you a better idea as to source of leaks.
You never know, someone may have spilt some oil when they last topped it up; I've done this a couple of times!

Re: Oil leak :(
Hi there, welcome
I think the XUD11 is fairly prone to a leaking top cover gasket, I know mine was urinating it out.

Re: Oil leak :(
Thanks for the quick replies
Its definitley not spilt oil or p/s fluid, im having to top the oil up ALOT, used 3 litres of oil over 50 miles, so its a pretty huge leak, im almost certain its coming from that pipe above the starter motor, im not sure about the gasket, its hard to see around

Re: Oil leak :(
UPDATE
I think ive found the source of the problem
i think the oil is coming from the oil filler at the very bottom, behind the starter motor, where it connects to the block.
Do you think that a leak from here, could be as major as i said above (3 litres of oil in 50 miles)
Also the resivour (sp?) has a metal crimp ring around it, does anyone have any idea how to remove these/re-fit them?
Thanks
