changing a 406 diesel engine

Hi im changing the engine and box in my mates 406 td its a 93-94 model at the weekend im not new to changing them but never worked on a pug and was wondering if anyone had a workshop manual or a how 2 guide.

The 406 wasnt built until 1996, are you sure its a 93 model?

it is possibly the 405 then

In that case its good news for you. The 406 1.9 uses a semi electronic injection system where as the 405s is completely mechanical. Making the wiring a darn sight easier.
Have you sourced an engine yet? theres a lot of other cars which used that lump so they should be 10 a penny.

yeah we have 2 405 there one has body work damage and a good engine and the other has good body work and knackered engine.
I was thinking it would be easier to lift the engine and box out together and drop the new ones in.
anyone any tips how 2 guides will be much apprechaiated.

Sounds wierd but the easiest way is to drop the entire front subframe out and swap them over. That way you get everything in one lump. The only problem you may encounter if theres a age gap between the cars is a different steering rack.
