Guys, my HDi is due an oil change. Figured I could do it tonight if I go get a filter from Halfrauds.

Now I have about 6 litres of Castrol Edge 0w-30 engine oil in the garage which I used to use in my old D-turbo. I know its not the recommended oil for the HDi but will it do the job ok?

What I are bin told is that thinner oil is liable to weep past turbo seals, becoming more likely as an engine ages.

when I type in the reg number on the castrol site it recommends 5w-40 but a 10w-30 would probably do the trick. I think 15w would be a bit too thick, last winter we had a week when the temperatures dropped to -18 at night :|

I ran both the 406 and the Omega on 15 for a year, no discernible problems to report, but then it certainly doesn't get that cold 'round these parts ^_^

Standard oil for the HDi is 10w40 semi synthetic.

I went into my local europarts (essentially halfords except the staff know what they are on about, and they stock proper car parts, and prices are reasonable) and the man looked up the book and gave me 15w40 oil, this is what it said the 110 hdi needed and its working fine

15w40 certainly won't do any harm, especially in the summer, but 10w40 semi synthetic is standard.I've done hundreds of oil changes on the HDi all of them using 10w40, it's the all rounder for summer and winter.
