.... are these engines and gearboxes going to last? it's a 99 t-reg done 85k 2 owners serviced every 8k?
Its had a fair amount spent on her, brand new rad, new drop links, local garage thinks she in good condition.

Just looking for advice as im thinking of selling and buying a estate model, or do i stay put.

Typical lifespan seems to be generally 200k+

As you've got a late, low-mileage example of one of the last engines that'll run on veg oil there should be some interest if you want to sell it.

I'd go for the estate, but then i'm biased.....

your car has had all the general stuff done to it, i would stick with that, i have same engine 1998 123k miles , apart from the odd drop link failure and clutch & accelartor cable issues its never let me down, brilliant car would not change it for anything at the moment,

love it that much im paying £250 this week for a new cambelt fitted so i plan on keeping it for a long time 8)

Thanxs guys, may stay put then. But its difficult with two children and two buggies in a saloon model,

If i was to sell it would be looking for around £750 mark. Anyone looking to sell a diesel estate model?

Don't mean to hijack but would like to test the water here, I have a 1996 406 Exec, 173,000 - paid £400 and love it, my problems are thus -

1. fitted new brakes (drum rear - disc front) both discs/pads and drums/shoes - now abs light on - on from ignition

2. Rattling from altenator - saw that belt was 'flapping' about at the bottom - new rollers top and bottom - stopped the flapping but still noisy - crank pulley not split or owt, got big screwdriver in near spring and pressed, seemed to take noise off - could it be broken (spring I mean) can't see it flapping about

3. Seems to get hot easilly, give it some boot and it'll bob up to 103 C - should it go up so easy under load? Drops easy as well, back to 90 C - chemically flushed radiator

I was toying with getting shot but might get one just as bad - still tonking along at 100 on motorway - went to Scotland and got 620 miles for a tank (well chuffed) starts 1st time every time, bit of grey smoke on start but no clouds - my question is, would you fix it or get shot and any ideas what could be the issue with these faults listed above?

Cheers
Gaz

And your opinions will influence what happens - ohhhh the power

i would fix it, if it was mine,

abs light not to sure about but it cant be major if it only came on after fitting new brakes,,,,

did you bleed the cooling system correctly after flushing ? with the 2 nipples ,

few minor problems they seem defo wouldnt sell it , 8)

ABS light may be a wire come off one of the pads, I had this on mine. Also check the wiring isn't damaged going to the socket for the pad leads.

As Gary says I would double check for air in the cooling system.

See that's what I'm thinking - just got the following from a bod on flea bay for £75

F/driver Headlight as that thumb adjuster jobbo had snapped
2 month old tensioner spring
passenger air bag cover
spotlight holders (x2)
both heated seat switches
The gubbings and reciever for the key fob
2x front abs sensors
