HI all
On saturday bought myself a y plate hdi 110 estate , after my poor old 1.9 finally gave up on me , was overjoyed smoother quieter , few more toy' s ran great , however this morning im being followed by a cloud/s of smoke , black , even on tickover , you can see it , it also doesnt like pulling away have to get the revs up to 2k or feels like its going to stall smoke seems to reduce wen driving over 2.5k revs, and have to keep dropping down gears when i get to hill/ incline , but lots of smoke on hills , seems to run fine on motorway 60 70 mph but feels a bit labouring when i get to an incline and smoke starts , but definately worse when im around town , live near a school so just poodle out the first couple of roads , and smoke is filling my rear view mirror.
any help advice greatly appreciated (fixable ? or did i buy a lemon? )

Step one: new fuel and air filters, Redex in the tank and fuel filter housing. Second, I believe HDis have some other kind of inline filter thingy that causes trouble?
From reading your post I get a suspicion that you're not getting enough air, clearing up a bit when the turbo spools up and rams more through.

Check the hoses to and from the intercooler and turbo , look for
splits or if any have come loose , happened to me with exactly
the same results

If all is well with hoses, intercooler, filters etc, then you need to be looking for an airflow meter fault (MAF).

hi Jasper
by Maf fault do you mean a new Maf ?

A faulty MAF will give heavy black smoke, but the advice puggy and swiss gave should be followed first.
Sometimes you might need a new MAF, but sometimes cleaning the wire inside can help (be very careful doing that as the wire is extremely delicate, spray carb cleaner on it.)

Hi all
Found it's blowing air out the bottom of the air filter box where it joins to the hard plastic pipe going down, ( would have thought it would be sucking rather than blowing?) anyway have tried diconectinting and reseating but still blowing air around the plastic clip joint ? Any ideas? Is this enough to cause the problems I'm having ?
Thanks for your help much appreciated
Jason

Yes it is Jason , as much as is possible it should be a sealed system , seal it
as much as you can then give it a run to see if it improves .

It shouldn't leak at the joints

oooh, I thought for a minute there...
Thing is, I wouldn't have thought it would be blowing anywhere from around the air filter because it's the pull side of the turbine, what Jason describes there seems to be the inlet pipe, the one that hoovers puddles up from under the wheelarch, so I'm a bit lost as to why it would have positive pressure. Unless his turbo's running backwards
